I am down to the last few days before revisiting WDW, and need some experienced information on the 250 pound limit at Segway Tours.

I have made reservations for the tour during our upcoming visit and have worked hard (dropped sixty) to not only get ready for our trip, but to get down in weight to the 250 pound limit for the tour as stated by Disney.

It now is close, real close, and I know that Segway website actually states their limit as 260 pounds rather than 250. Today I weigh in at 253.

The question is to anyone actually done the tour, who is close to or slightly over the weight limit? How discerning is the Disney "screening process" for weight limits? Has anyone actually been turned away?

I would hate to cancel the tour out of concern for a pound or two or three, thanks in advance for any candid replies.

You'll be fine, Disney doesn't make anyone get on a scale. Enjoy the tour!!! And congratulations on the weight loss! :sunny:

well - they never made anyone get on a scale if that's what you are asking.
I would call WDW (prior to booking) and speak to someone about it. Ask them how lenient it is...or if they have a 'stronger' segway they could offer you. (You use basic segways on the tour...the "stripped down model" so to say...they MIGHT have one that will accomodate more weight? Please don't quote me on that though.)

I hope you are able to do the tour! It really is alot of fun once you get the hang of it!

Wow, I am in the same situation. I am booked on the Segway tour next week and am concerned because I am right at the 250 mark as well. I was going to cancel because I am having nightmares about having to get on a scale in front of everyone and being thrown out! Congrats on losing the 60 lbs!

Thanks for the prompt replies and wishes, and good luck to Richs52 on your tour (I felt the same way about the scale).

When we did the tour last year DH was just a bit over the 250, too, and was a little worried that they'd question or weigh him  . There were a few pooh sized people in our tour and no one was questioned or weighed - so, I wouldn't worry about it unless you were well over the stated limit (looks like they've raised the limit if it's 260 now). We took the Segway tour on DSs 16th b'day . . . it was a BLAST!!! :smooth:

Thanks Bjakmom, but the 260 limit is what Segway states on their website, not Disney, who still uses 250.

Looking forward to it and thanks again for you advice!

First of all, welcome and congrats on the weight loss! :thumbsup2

I'm sure Disney's just being safe by posting the weight limit at 250 instead of the 260 lbs that is the segway's actual limit. You should be fine, but if you still feel unsure, just give them a call. Good luck and have fun on your trip!

I have been on the tour 3 times; our last was this March. There is a required safety film that they have at the beginning of the class. Part of it covers people who should not ride the Segway (including weight over 250 pounds, lack of lateral balance). Before and again after watching the movie, the CM announced that people could "opt out" if they felt uncomfortable about anything regarding riding or that they should not ride for any reason. He also indicated they did have a scale if anyone wanted to privately weigh themself.

Just back from our WDW trip, and would like to report there was no real screening process for weight issues by CMs at the Segway Tour.

I made the recommended weight target by four pounds prior to departing, and we enjoyed the tour so much that we repeated it during our visit. A must do event if you can!
