Just got off the phone with a very helpful CM, this tour has attracted me and we have an upcoming surprise trip for my cousin's who are houseparents at a children's home.

My fear has been that there is a weight limit, which there is. FYI - 100# minimum, 250# Max. Houseparent dad is a BIG guy, 6'4" and quite likely over 250. The CM said that it is probable that if a person looks that large that the CM's would need to weigh them. (Both for the guests safety, and so that the Segway will move:) This would not bother any of us in the least, but wanted to pass the information on, as it might make other's decisions easier.

Also the tour runs daily, you can book up to a year in advance, adults are $80, and there are discounts for AAA, Disney Visa Card holders, DVC members, and a coupon in Birnbaum's travel guide.

Have a magical day!!!

Great-thanks! I really want to do this one. I hope if you're planning on it, you'll post a review when you return.

DS and I did the segway tour 2 weeks ago and we really had a great time. We had planned this tour for the 2 of us for fathers day for each other. The tour took you all thru Epcot world showcase after a brief course on how to ride. It was just the best....

did the cm indicate what happens if you get there and are over the 250 mark? i've considered booking this as a surprise for dh, but would hate for him to get there and get turned away (he fluctuates)... plus i would hate to lose my money if it is not refundable...

The money for the tour would be refunded for the person who was unable to go. She was unclear on whether the entire party could decline. Think we will decide before we go, Don't want to lose the extra time finding out when we get there :)

Thanks SOOO much for the pictures! Looks like so much fun!! Can't wait to do this, if we don't make it this year, for sure next summer!!!!

When I called to book for our October trip the CM told me you can only book 90 days out. Did this policy change I have my phone calender set for when to book. My DH and I are really looking forward to doing this. Any info would help.
Thanks Denise

The Segway tour is AWESOME!

Just keep in mind that there is a limit of 10 people per group so the spots fill up quickly.

DH and I did this tour last September and I was so glad...DH LOVED it!

I'm curious-how far ahead did you book?

I would guess it was around 90 days or less...but we planned our trip very late (April/May for a September trip) and I didn't know about the Segways when we first booked. And, September is a slow time anyway.

I hope you are able to book it for your trip!

DS12 can't wait til he's 16 to do this.

Since he's only 74lbs now I just hope he's 100 lbs. by then!!

Thanks for the info.

The longest tour is 2 hours, the first part is a "training class" to get you used to riding the segways. The last portion you ride around EPCOT with your group to the admiration of all the Disney guests :)

Thank you for responding so quick. At first I did not want to do the tour, but now I am getting excited.

Here's a link to the DIS site's general information, which includes a link to a review of the experience. There are 2 tours, the one I'm talking about is the one titled "Segway Tour".
I've been on the Segway tour 3 times. The first part is a little video about the Segway, including a part about the 'dangers' of riding one, contraindications/cautions to riding one. At that point, people are invited to ask more questions or ask for clarification and told that if they feel uncomfortable or do not meet the guidelines for riding, that they can 'opt out'. They did say they had a scale available if anyone wanted to check their weight privately to see if they should opt out because of the weight requirement.

After that, you put on your helmet and go to a machine. They individually help each person to step up onto their Segway, then explain the basics and have each person practice. By the time you are ready to leave the training room, you have become comfortable going forward, turning both ways, going up an down ramps, plus what to do if you run into an obstacle. After a quick restroom break, you will go out into the park. While in the areas of the park that are open to the public, you ride single file, behind the tour CM. Once you get past Norway, you are in closed areas of the park and don't need to ride single file. At each country in WS, you stop for a few minutes while the tour CM talks about that country's area. The CM usually leads you on a bit of an obstacle course thru each country - around columns or up and down bridges. At Italy, they have a longer photo stop where the CMs will take pictures of you or you can get off and take pictures of other members of your party.
Once you get to the International Gateway area, you are back into single file for the ride back to the training room.

It's lots of fun (otherwise I would not have gone 3 times), not that hard to do and an experience you will remember.

Thanks so much Sue! This looks like such a great tour, and a chance to do something the average Joe would never get a chance to do!! Looking forward to it one way or the other :)

Wow! What a great description! I have also been looking at this tour but I was concerned about the weight limit. Kaybird, thanks for the info from the CM. I have been looking at this tour, but I want to wait for another month or two before I book so that I can have some confidence that I won't gain too much weight before my trip. :sad2: Hopefully, SueM's description is the incentive that I need to stay on my diet!

haing been on it 3 times, it's a little easier to remember the details. ;)

Great description SueM.

We did the tour twice during our May 06 visit, and it was the highlight of the week.

I had to drop sixty pounds to make the weight limit, so the tour was a great motivation! Now I keep the weight off since I know we will want to go again during our next visit.

Another fun part of the tour is that in Italy during the photo break you can run around in a coned off section of the walkway, kind of 'free styling' on the Segway.

Also, there was some discussion about an off road version of the tour being added when the new off road Segway hits the market. Our instructior for one of the tours had spent the day before running test paths for this new project.
