Segmenting Reservation

Just called to segment my reservation for Dec 17-23 in a THV. I was told by MS that they would have to cancel the segmented part of my ressie and there was a good chance that i would lose the reservation. Once cancelled the room would go to the waitlist before i could rebook.

I called back and a different CM says that there is no way i can get the DDP for nights 2 and 4 of my ressie. She said i would have to book dining for all 5 of my guests for all 6 nights. I tell her i know it can be done and i need to segment my reservation into nights 1&2/ nights 3&4/ nights 5&6. She looked and said there was no availability left and she would have to cancel my ressie. I guess next time i will just book it by nights and link them all together. If i didn't need a THV it would not be a big deal to cancel and rebook somewhere else but i need the 3 bedroom's.

I have a question about segmenting like you were needing.

When you segment a reservation, do you have to call on different days to book each portion? Rather than reserving 7 nights on a single phone call?

Apparently that is the easiest way to do it since they have to cancel your reservation if you don't. The way i understand it (and i may be wrong) you should call and reserve only the nights for that segment then when you call back to reserve the other segment just have them link the two reservations. Different reservations but they are linked in the system so you won't have to move.

Yes...that is the easiest way but unfortunately I rarely do things the easiest way:rotfl2:. I called a couple of weeks ago for BLT 1 bedroom SV for 6 nights on 12/3 - 12/9. There were only 1 or 2 rooms available on the 3rd and if I wanted to segment, I'd have to call back the next day to make my next segment stay. She said you have three options, book now for your 6 nights, call back each day for your segments, or wait the 6 days and then call back and hope all the days were available to then book and segment all at once. I obviously went went with an immediate booking so as to not lose the room.

She did say 1 VERY mportant thing...if you really wanted to segment, wait 6 days and then call back and ask to segement. She continued...whatever CM you get DO NOT let them tell you they have to cancel your reservations to do it. She was adament with that. If you get a person who claims that, either hang up and then call back for a different cast member or ask to speak to a supervisor. She was very clear there is a way to segment after the reservations and even if there are no more rooms available. Most CMs don't like to do it she claims because it can take a while to get it done...especially on long reservations or if the person wants to break 10 days up into individual days....they really hate that one she claimed!!! It does take some time but they can do it (they have to call another group/person to help them do it).

So, I called the first time and got a CM who had no clue what I was talking about...I said thanks, will call back and have a magical day! I immediately called back and got a person who said sure we can do that. She then looked to see if there was availability...there wasn't so she said, "oh well, we will have to do this the hard way". She then asked for exactly how I wanted my 6 nights broken down (I told her 2/2/2) and she said well....3 is much better than 6! Anyway, she told she would have to put me on hold for up to 20 minutes as she had to call a different group/department to help segment the rooms and rebook so as to not lose the reservation. I said fine and about 17 minutes later she came back to tell me it was all done.

I immediately went to DVCMember and sure enough, my one reservations was now 3 but still tied together by the same reservation number. Sooooooo, this is a VERY long way of saying....call back and get a supervisor if the CM you get doesn't know what he/she is doing!

On a sidenote, there are still "issues" with how it is working and she did say we may have to go down on the day of the new segment to get new KTTW cards...I'd hope by December it would be fixed but then again...this is Disney IT we are talking about! I hope this helps.

I called again and since my ressie is dec 17-23 i figured i might be able to get 3/3 segmented since today is the 20th maybe there would be rooms left for the later part of my trip. I get a guy who seems to know what he is doing. I'm not sure if rooms were availabe or not but he put me on hold for 5 minutes. He came back and said you're all set, same reservation nothing changed but i split it into 2 segments and linked them. I was happy that i at least got this done so i am not calling back. We will do 3 days of the DDP instead of 2 days of the DxDDP. I will at least know what im doing and have more flexibility when just my wife and son and i go back in 2012.

I am glad that you were able to get it done. I decided this past weekend that I wanted to segment my August trip, which was booked prior to the change.

Instead of calling MS, I sent an email to them via the website and simply told them what I wanted in terms of nights. I specifically stated that if I was at risk of losing either my BW view room or my SV room at BLT then not to do it.

I got an email two days later that said it was all set. Very easy and I didn't have to wait on the phone.

It seems like e-mailing is the way to go and it is much easier if there are rooms available when they are segmenting. I'm in a treehouse Villa so they book up quick. I will definitely book differently next time. Probably call on the last day of my ressie and see what is available. When i find what i want then book it and have them segment the entire trip right there. Knowledge of the system and planning are everything. I think we may know more about it than MS right now.

I am not understanding why you would want to segment at all. Can someone explain it to me? Is it just so you can change around the DDP?

The dining plans have never appealed to us, as we are appetizers and wine folks rather than the entree & dessert folks the DDP caters to. So TiW works much better for us, and we can just reserve the whole stay in one call, with no hassles.

Yes, that is why. We are considering do the DxDDP for the 1st night. Because credits are good until midnight of your check out day, I can spread the credits out over two days.

The DxDDP is $78.99 and it will give me 3 meal credits, 2 snack credits and a mug. We would buy the mug anyway and will be eating TS meals each day this trip (taking one of my DD's friend who has only been to Disney once). If you subtract the cost of the mug, I am paying around $65 for two different TS meals, a CS meal, and snacks (which we will use for breakfast).

Based on all the prices of the restaurants we plan to visit, it works out to be a pretty good deal.

TiW may work for you, but it doesn't work for everyone (i.e. those who don't have an AP).

Thanks to those of you who suggested emailing. I sent an email last night, and by this afternoon, someone had replied to me telling me that my reservation had been segmented! Yeah!!! Now, I can get the Deluxe DDP for only 2 nights instead of our whole stay!

This just solves all my worries for future stays, too. I plan on booking value studios at Jambo quite a bit, and because there are so few of them, I was nervous about booking them day-by-day. Now I can book the entire stay, then later email DVC to get them to segment it if I want the DDP for only a few days. Thanks again!

That is wonderful! What a useful tip I learned from this thread :thumbsup2

Is a split stay considered segmented? So if we change our current 5 nights reservation at BLT to 3/2 split stay between BLT and SSR, will that be considered segmented?

I like the idea of 1 night DDP plan since we will definitely be buying the mug and love to try different dining experiences. So for us to avail that we actually need to do a 1/3/2?:confused3

No, that would be considered a split stay and getting one of the dining plans for one part and not the other, or two different plans for each part is not a problem at all. We have done this the past two summers.

Segmenting happens when you take apart a reservation for the same room at the same resort.

For example, I have a BW view 2 bedroom booked in August for two nighs. I had them segment night 1 from night 2 and then link them back up. I won't have to change rooms, but I will have to get new keys on day 2 because I will have the DxDDP for that night but not for night 1.

In your case, then you would want them to segment out the first night's stay at BLT from nights 2 and 3 at BLT.

Or, if you wanted it with the SSR stay, have them segment apart nights 1 and 2 of the SSR part.

Thank you Sandi. This is making sense.

To the OP, sorry for taking over your thread. I do have few more questions. In same example in previous post, will I have to consume all of the meals on day 1. If not, when will it be valid up to? I am not sure if it will be valid for entire 5 day trip or only for first 3 days. Will this apply to refillable mugs? I don't recall if they are per resort

Thanks for the tip on emailing member services to segment a trip. I emailed this morning and this afternoon I got an email back saying my trip was segmented! Checked the member website and everything looks correct. It was so much easier than calling!
