Segmenting reservation issues when onsite?

I know we have a lot of reports about issues with segmenting the reservations during the reservation process but I was wondering if we could start a thread to collect the actual reports when members get onsite. Here are a few question I would love to know the answers to:

What happens at check in?

Are they able to check you in for the entire stay or are they asking you to return to the desk and get new keys?

Do the keys you receive automatically reflect the different days changing of the dining plan?

Is there a difference in the resorts that are DVC only and the blended resorts in their knowledge of how to handle this new change?

Thanks everyone!:cool1:

We had a segmented reservation last month. Our experience was that we had the same key for the entire stay. The DDP was on the cards, we just had to be sure to use our credits during the correct days we purchased it for.

Where did u stay? How many segments did u have?

I am interested in this, too. MS continues to tell me I will have to check out and in each day of my stay.

Please do tell. I have seen many posts where people complain of having to check in/out for each segment, housekeeping being confused about the cleaning schedule and other inconveniences that are turning me off of the idea.

DW and I are considering the segmenting option for our 2 week Aug stay this year but the hassles that have been reported don't seem worth it.

I had a segmented reservation over T-giving. One day added after the initial reservation was made. I bought DDP for the last 6 nights, not for the first night.

I did have to go to the front desk (at SSR) on Day Two to get new KTTW cards that showed DDP...initially, DDP didn't show up and the front desk CM told me it wouldn't matter because the computer showed that we had DDP...that made me pretty nervous, tho, so I asked that the cards be redone...I could just see me having to argue/explain at every ADR/CS purchase. It took them a while (about 20 minutes) but ultimately I got KTTW cards that showed we had DDP.

As for mousekeeping: we were there for 7 nights (segmented into one night and 6 nights)...we got 4 Trash & Towel services and one full cleaning...and the one day we didn't get mousekeeping was the day we "should" have gotten it. It was kind of a pain, as we didn't expect mousekeeping any of the days they came...I normally straighten up a bit when I know mousekeeping is coming, and I didn't any of the days they came...

So, yes, mousekeeping schedules were completely messed up. And yes, I did have to get new KTTW cards at the start of my second segment. And yes, it was a hassle, although a fairly minor one. We did not have to change rooms--nor did the possibility of it ever come up.

This was fairly soon after the computer "upgrade"...I think it may actually have been in the middle of it. So maybe some of the problems have been solved by now?

Sounds like you wanted the new KTTW cards for your own piece of mind which I completely understand. I just wonder how it would have worked if you hadnt gotten new KTTWs...HMMMM

Just sent an e-mail requesting our 6 night stay in July be split into 3 and 3.
We want to do reg DP first 3 nights and DxDP the last three.
Planning to eat at the Castle and Jiko... :thumbsup2
Having 7 people in our room this a a nice savings. I think the DxDP would have been too much.
The cost to upgrade those three nights is about the same as the Castle would have cost to pay Oop.
So we get 4 extra TS Credits basically for FREE... :cool1:
I will post when I get a reply back.

They (The SSR front desk CM) told me when I checked in on Sunday (day 1 and first segment) that I would have to come back and check in again and get new keys the next day (the start of segment 2)... I had the new keys they told me I had to have done redone to show the DDP, but they told me I did have to check in again on the start of Segment 2 (on Day 2 in my case)...hope that clarifies...my peace of mind resulted in a third set of keys (to show the DDP), but they required the two sets (first for Day 1/segment 1; second for days 2-6/segment 2)...

Thanks for clarifying. I understand now.

I am one who was there when the computer system was being changed over. I had called MS to add the DP to two days in the middle of the reservation and was told everything was okay because my original reservation was made up of the middle two nights when I first called, then the first and last night came about from waitlisting so it showed as three segments. When we checked in I asked if I would have to check in again on day 2 - yes but you will not need to check in again for the last day. Okay on day 2 I go to the desk and they can't seem to add the DP for the two nights and say that it is because the reservation was linked and they would have to unlink it. Fine after about 30-40 minutes they got it unlinked and my new card shows DDP - they then say I will have to get new key for the last night. When I go to get the key for the last night they can't do it because the computer system is down or not functioning correctly yet. When we get back to the room later that night the old key still works and we go to bed. Next morning I go to get coffee and the key no longer works so it is back to the front desk where they can't find the key they had left a message about the night before but which we had not picked up so they made me a new key so I could finish packing to check out. I think I have read that things have improved greatly but that you should still be sure to segment the reservations when first making them. That could also be different by now.We are still trying to decide if we want to do any DDP when we go this next Dec. and I didn't separate out the days so that may decide the matter for us in the end.

Subbing here since I want to keep informed...considering adding segmented Deluxe Dining to our ressie in June and want to inform the other members of our travel party in case they want to do the same!

Did you have a combination of dining plan types? I'm thinking of doing the regular plan for 3 nights, and the deluxe for 3 nights, and on that 1 day where both dining plans are active, I want to make sure that there won't be an issue with which which credits are going to be used (i.e. will want to use up snack credits from the first 3 nights, etc).

Thanks!

I see your question! Let's say you have the regular dining plan on Sunday night and it is now Monday. You have not used your snack credits and you are getting the Dx plan for Monday night. If you got a print out of your available credits would it say 3 snack credits? Since it's check out day on one reservation and check in day on the other?

I have done a split stay twice now with different dining plans. On the check out/check in day, you have use of both sets of credits. The ones from the first part expire at midnight.

What we did (since we changed resorts) is simply mark the card with a sharpie so I knew to use that one up first before starting the credits on the new card.

It was not an issue at all but then again, this was prior to the new computer system and the issues some have recently had with credits disappearing after check out. But, as long as those issues are fixed, it isn't any big deal.

The only thing is that if you have meal credits on both cards, at least at the CS places, I had to place the orders separately. On our move from BWV to BLT, we had 2 CS meals left on the BWV card but there were 4 of us eating. So, I just ordered two meals and swiped the BWV card and then ordered the other two with my BLT card.

OK, maybe I a naive here but if you are staying at the same resort I thought that you were supposed to be able to keep the same keys? If that is correct then how does it know which credits you have on the check in/check out day of a day that you are changing plans.

If not and you have to change keys, does Member service have plans to change this?

We would like to add the DDP to two nights out of six. We do not have a split reservation at this time. If I call back to add this, am I in danger of losing my reservation?

We did not plan to use DDP, but prices for some meals have gone up significantly (Boma dinner is $39!) so it might make sense for us to do the plan for our meals out.
