seems to be less characters at MK than 3 years ago?

just back from a fab trip to WDW.

i noticed that in Town Square, MK - there seemed to be only the usual characters doing signings; mickey, minnie, chip and dale, goofy and pluto and pinnochio.

When i went three years ago town sqaure seemed to have LOADS of different characters doing signings: daisy duck, dopey, friar tuck, prince john, timon, etc.

has anyone else noticed this?

When I was at Mk yesterday I saw Robin Hood, Little John, Prince John, Friar Tuck, Minnie, Mickey, Goofy, Woody, Jesse, Buzz, Stitch, Jasmine, Aladdin, Captain Hook, Mr. Smee, Timon, Rafike, Peter Pan, Wendy, Alice, Treedle Dee and Tweedle Dum, two of Cinderella's Mice, Chip and Dale, and Cruela Deville. And I wasn't even looking for characters and was only there for two hours.

It must vary. I was at the MK two afternoons in late January. The weather was great -- low to mid 60s-- so I thought characters would be everywhere! But I was wrong. The first day, I saw several in Town Square, but that was it! The second day, the only characters I saw greeting were either in Toon Town or Woody & the gang in FrontierLand. I thought it was strange that so few were out & about. I'm hoping it'll be better in October!

I still think there are bunches of characters. We missed Jasmine last September though. Gotta see her this trip. I want the kids picture taken with her and Belle, since those are our 2 dogs names.

When we went last August we only saw the main characters. I was really hoping to see more, but we couldn't find any anywhere. Maybe they just didn't come out, because of the heat.

Little John has been out? This is great news! I also noticed he has been redesigned, so there are 2 different Little Johns out there. I met the old "Little John" back in December, but I seen photos of a "new" Little John, too.

YES, I completely agree with the original poster!!! Character appearances are definately down, in my opinion, at Magic Kingdom and definately MGM. At Magic Kingdom, they eliminated the character meeting spot that used to take place in front of the Castle. This spot had lots of the common ones (Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Pluto, Donald, Chip and Dale), so now these common ones took over in front of the park. The front of the park (Town Square) now has all the commons and just a few "rarer" ones. Many of the unusual characters just don't get out as much anymore as a result.

The only good place going at Magic Kingdom is the ToonTown Train Station, but this location may be used often in some seasons (it was used ALOT in January when we were there!) or only sporatically in other months. There can be a great group of characters there, if you're lucky!

MGM is the worst, as definately far less characters. There used to be many cool "face" characters and rarer furry characters that would meet in a large group by the entrance or the Big Hat (Snow Queen, Mulan, Mushu, Pheobus, Hercules, Meg, Pocahontas, Meeko, etc.), but this meeting stopped in the Fall, and I don't know if anything has changed.

I guess the "heyday" of characters is behind us, but there are still a decent amount of them out. Some days have more characters out than others, but I do think there are less characters than in 2002-2004.

We were there in the Fall of 05 as well and really noticed that not many characters were out and the ones that were were scheduled so short that yyou wouldn't get to see them if there was a line at all. Everywhere we went it was the same ones---Mickey and friends or Pooh and friends. We saw the princesses by going to a meal, but other than that ran across very few other characters. Maybe it is hit and miss, but it was nice weather and it amkes the magic, so when they aren't out, there seems to be something missing.

We've been visiting in January for many years, and in October for many years before that. We've NEVER seen SO MANY CHARACTERS in the parks as we saw this year. It was utterly incredible.

oh and i thought that i would let you know - i went on the figment ride at epcot last wedensday and asked a CM in the gift shop if figment would be coming out for a meet and greet. I was told 'no.'

then i walked into innovations west around 4pm and guess who was there doing meet and greets - FIGMENT!

i couldn't believe it - so i took a picture - got a nice CM to take a picture of me and him and told him that i loved his ride!

There are more characters out and about when the parks are busy. Over Christmas and fall break (when the parks were packed), we saw lots and lots of characters everywhere we went.

You saw Figment??? This is great! Someone else reported recently that they saw Figment, too, so hopefully his hiatus is over and he will start appearing again regularly!!

And that CM who told you "NO" about Figment pretty much sums up what happens when I asked about a character! Most CMs don't know much unless it is happening right in front of them. Almost every character we ever found was from just walking around the parks and keeping our eyes open, not asking a CM. That's great you found Figment even with the "bad" information!

The reason for this is that the Cinderella's Surprise Celebration show was stopped. Cinderellabration is now currently going on, and the characters don't do meet and greets (except in the rare occasion of a show being canceled). Oh, btw, I've probably told you this already, but I LOVE your website. I have a lot of pictures of my own and hopefully one day I'll get them onto a website (they are in the web address in my signiture).
