Hi. Usually we go to Daytona in the Spring and stay at the Wyndham Ocean Walk. We are going MLK weekend this year (dates not flexible) for an event at the Ocean Center. The Wyndham is already sold out (due to event) in the less expensive rooms and I am not willing to pay high prices.
Currently I have two reservations at the Plaza Resort at Spa for $140 a night (Limited View) and Plaza Ocean Club for $80 a night. The Plaza Resort & Spa has better reviews, yet a friend of mine says she has heard horrible reviews. So far I know three other families staying at the Plaza Ocean Club who feel it's a nice hotel. I am wondering if they have these hotels mixed up because I have read horrible (and recent) reviews of roaches, dirty rooms, urine smelling, horrible parking. The Plaza Resort & Spa says two free welcome cocktails, free valet parking, WALKING distance to Ocean Center. The Ocean Club is a bit further o a walk but my family is able to walk distances.
Do you have any other recommendations for a hotel within walking distance of the Ocean Center? My daughter has to perform on Saturday and Sunday at the Ocean Center and my son hates tagging along (but it's his birthday weekend) so we want a hotel within walking distance because we usually let him stay in the room and he just plays video games all day (his 22 year old brother usually stays with him but he will be turning 13 on this trip so not a little kid himself.) I only need a room for 2 adults and 2 kids because there is no guarantee the older son will be off work and he usually sleeps on an air mattress anyways when he does come.
Since it is MLK weekend, we are not planning on swimming in the pool or ocean but a beach view or sitting on the hotel back deck (if I don't have a room view) is always nice for drinks in the evening. I wouldn't want to go over $140 a night. We are FL residents and military so often we get some sort of room discount.
Any recommendations appreciated. And if you have an opinion about either one of the hotels I mentioned, please feel free to share. It's always fun for my daughter to stay at hotels with her team members, but I am really leaning towards the Plaza Resort and Spa.
