Is there a way with DCL to keep up with who charged what to the stateroom account? When we are at the world I will just have separate gift cards with the kids spending allowance on them and they use those to buy what they want, but that is not possible on DCL, right? So I need to see if I will be able to tell who charged what, when, ect.

It’s on the app. You go to your account and can see your expenses. Or you can use the in room TV to choose your account profile. I’ve used both

Oh, great. That will be helpful.

On our last cruise, we gave our teens charging privileges, with clear expectations that they could only charge things that they planned to pay for out of their own personal allowances.

But we found that we were always all together in the gift shop, for example, and bought things in one big transaction using my KTTW card or my husband’s card. This made it annoying when we got home and I had to check each purchase and figure out who bought what and assign it to the right line item in our family budget tracker. (We use the Dave Ramsey “Every Dollar” tracking app).

Solution for the next trip is that. each family member will to use their own KTTW card to charge their own things. That way the itemizations will already be done for me when I look at the list of charges. This is because the breakdown is given according to what KTTW card was used.

Disney gift cards can be used by your kids in the shops. My kids were given gift cards for Christmas by their grandparents and used them to buy souvenirs on the boat.

Excellent advice. Good to know.

Ok, that will work to then for in shop purchases. It has been so long I have forgotten.

The only thing is that if you break your purchases up and they have a "spend $50 and get this" deal, you'll miss out.

This is definitely something to think about. We got our kiddo gift cards with the intention of having them be in charge of their purchasing in the gift shops. But ended up putting it all on our account because with the disney visa, we got 10% off purchases over $50. So we just kept track of what they picked out, and ended up putting the gift cards on our account at guest services. (You still get the discount.)

Our kiddo is still several years away from a teen, though, so it might be worth missing out on that discount in order to give them the freedom (and you the peace of mind) that comes with them being in charge of their own money.

This. They are oh so careful with spending when they know its on a card and when it is gone, its gone. No more from momma.

Yeah, I thought about that- and I’m a sucker for those kinds of deals, lol. I’m willing to make an exception for that and will just have to take note when we do it.

DCL will let you combine receipts from multiple purchases to hit the $50 minimum.
Wow, really? So like if one kid buys stuff and the next kid is in line and buys stuff, they can put their receipts together and get the “special” item? That’d be great!

Last cruise, we all said, "Bah. It's a vacation. We don't need to be looking at our spending folio!"

Wow. The morning of departure was EYE OPENING! lol
