We want to go roam some of Orlando, but will not have a car. We are staying onsite. Has anyone took the city bus and went anywhere off site?

The city bus stops right in front of our apartment complex, and, I have to say, you are a brave soul to want to ride the LYNX system! The public bus system here attracts mostly low-income residents, and, because they don't run frequently, you will be standing out in the blazing Florida heat waiting for a bus. Some of the stops are shaded, but most aren't. I wouldn't recommend it.

Cheers!

You'd be better off renting a car (you can rent them at Downtown Disney) for just a day or 2 if you're really interested in "roaming".

Great advice!
I think you're the type who would benefit by renting a car. There's lots in the area that Disney transportation doesn't serve.

Rats!!!! I didn't want to rent a car, wanted a driveless vacation. I thought the city busses couldn't be to bad, due to people suggesting that for SeaWorld. Now, I need to find something else to do for the day.

Here's a tip from a guy who lived there for 5 years until recently. Stay on property, or near property, there is nothing to see otherwise. Not to mention the above poster is right, Lynx is far from a REAL transportation system. Orlando is a model of urban sprawl, you will spend an hour trying to get anywhere, so my suggestion is stay around the resorts, you'll be glad you did!

I'm not sure where you're wanting to "roam" to, but I can share some of our good experiences with roaming off site. I sometimes travel to WDW with my DGD. Since it's just the two of us, safety is always an issue. So, I avoid Lynx and don't care to drive. But, I have had wonderful experiences with Mears Shuttle service and Yellow Cab. We've gone to Discovery Cove, Sea World, Gaylord Palms and Universal for the about the same price of a rental car for the day. If you want to spend a little more or venture out a little farther, there are limo services and tour groups that are excellent for a day at the beach, Kennedy Space Center, airboat rides, etc. - all very fun! I don't see them mentioned much on the boards because I think most people enjoy the freedom of having their own car. Not me - I'm on vacation - let somebody else fight the traffic for a change! ;)

Anyway, there are other safe and affordable ways to get around! Have a great trip! :)

looks like you have only stayed in value resorts. So go visit the deluxe resort - Polyn, Cont, GF - take the bus to the Mk then get on the resort monrail.

then go back to the MK and take the boat to WL, VWL, FW.

or take the bus to studios then walk or boat to BW, D&S, BC, YC - remember studio not epcot. you take the epcot bus and you have to walk through epcot (cost you a park ticket) to get to these resorts.

some have tours (free) you can take. they all have some nice gift shops. ALWAYS ask about sales. Sometimes they sales are excellent. Found a better bargin once at a WDW gifts shop than I did the following day at the Disney outlet. Mind was a little better and cheaper. So they have bargins but you have to look for them.

never no matter how much you love the thing pay full price for it. Disney prices until they are on sales - are way to high. (my opinion)
