Does DL just have different feel than WDW?
A little bit, yes. A huge difference that we noticed was that at DL the characters would just get mobbed by people. They would try to leave to go back in and get mobbed. They would be on the way to the location and get mobbed by people. The handlers when there were some would tell people that they were leaving, but most still tried to get close to the character. That was like it was way back in the day. That was one of the big differences we noticed. I felt bad for a couple of the characters. Of course we did find a few randomly thoughout the parks. One pair of Mickey and Goofy at California Adventure were standing by the Tower of Terror exit, no handlers anywhere and no lines. It was really random.
And the people at DL are different since there are definitely a lot more locals than at WDW. Friday was a zoo at DL. Rides that earlier in the week had no waits had 10-15 minute waits. It was insane.
Going back to the characters, at the Princess Fantasy Faire where you can meet some of the Princesses you have to wait in an atrociously long line to meet 3 princesses, but no one can tell you who is there and it is nearly impossible to look to see which princesses are there. We were looking for Mulan and Pocahontas since we saw the others at Ariel's Grotto and grew very frustrated with waiting in line. I like how at WDW in toon town they tell you which characters are in which line so you can plan which line to get in.
DL is smaller which was nice and it was easy to hop betwen the two parks which was nice. There were several of the rides that we liked better at WDW than DL like Pirates. I didn't care for DL's version of Pirates at all. There are too many stretches where you can't see anything and serve no point. WDW's is shorter, but more to the point. I also liked the tea cups at WDW better since there are more tea cups.
The food is definitely better at WDW. There was no contest in that department. We were very disappointed in the lack of selection at DL. Most of the restaurants serve the same food.
It was fun, but I thought there was a bit of a different feel. Again I felt bad for some of the characters.
