I just came back from a week at the world and I'm happy to say I don't remember seeing more than a dozen Sedesmas all week and I never pass a lanyard without taking a look. I thought cast trading was very good. I got lots of HM/Cast lanyard pins and plenty of decent LEs and old retired rack pins. The only downer was trading at DTD has gotten even "sharkier" than other trips. I saw the same 3-4 traders every night and they turned down every trade I offered including some I considered weighted pretty heavily in their favor. It seemed like all they were waiting for was for tourists who really desire some pretty ordinary rack/HM pin to go buy a $12.95 LE to trade. One guy wanted me to trade the Haunted Mansion boxed set ($36.96) to trade for the April Lanyard pin (Pin 37460, $6.00 Buy it now on Ebay). Come on!? They really don't seem to care that they're tarnishing pin trading. Friday was the exception when there were several traders (none of whom I had seen earlier in the week) and I was able to complete my series 4 HM pins, one-for-one.

Those guys are a joke. That seems to be the story every trip. We see the same guys out there day after day. I do not think it would bother me so much if they did not look at your pin trading books so dismissively.

They are only sizing up how much they can get resale for the pins they get from you or they can make you by in the store.

What is a sedesma? Sorry I am new to this. Thanks

Is is a pin made in Spain. It was licensed to be made and is often sold in convenient stores and just about any store in Spain. They are usually known to be of lower quality and are notvery valued by pin traders. Up until recently, and someone correct me if I am incorrect, they were not allowed to be traded in Disney parks. I believe that has changed.

You really can not miss them when you see them. The colors are off a bit and they do not have the same look as a pin you would find sold in the U.S. They are also marked "Sedesma" on the backstamp.

It is not a recent change. Sedesmas have always been 'street-legal' for trading at WDW. ANY pin that has 'copyright Disney' or '[copyright symbol] Disney' on the back and that is metal (not plastic, not rubber) is tradeable with a WDW-CM. That includes ProPins, Sedesmas, cheap Disney promotional pins from cereal boxes/battery packs/USPS stamps, etc.
The other parks (even DL/DCA) seem to sometimes have different rules for pin-trading with their CMs.

I think part of the problem with pin trading is that although the rules are posted, they are always subject to change depending on who is interpreting them. For example, three years ago we had several CM's at the pin trading stations tell us that Sedesma's were not tradeable.

Thanks for the info agnes!

It's all under the control of Disney Corporate. They could easily decide to yank Sedesma's license away. But they haven't.
They could go after all the scrapper factories in China and after the individuals in the US who sell these particular unauthorized pins as "guaranteed genuine". But they haven't.
Believe me, those are indeed decisions. By deciding *not* to act, by going along with the status quo, Disney Corporate has made a decision that quality is not important, that controlling their brand in the pin marketplace is simply not important enough for them to bother with.

And yeah, individual CMs sometimes make up stuff about pintrading 'rules'. Like the one who insisted (when DD was young enough to 'legally' trade off a green lanyard), that she was too old. One of these days when I'm feeling really snarky and I run into one of these seemingly-clueless CMs, I might ask to see the update on the CM portal or ask where that particular rule is in the pintrading guidelines.

This is something I am extremely passionate about. My personal belief is that we are going to have to discriminate between pin trading and pin collecting. Pin trading may go the way of anything goes as long as it has a backstamp on it. It does seem that in fact that is the way it is heading. Pin trading will be done with CM's and trying to get their decent pins for whatever you can find on the internet for cheap.

Pin collecting may move to trading and collecting between legitimate pin collectors, whether it be face to face or via another medium such as pin pics or other trading forums.

Disney has created this monster and seems unwilling to do anything about the current situation in pin trading because their revenue has not decreased. In contrast the pin trading hobby has been able to flourish because of the ready availability of cheap or scrapper pins. This has allowed folks who could not afford the pin trading hobby to get into it.

I know this is not a popular view, but can anyone dispute that this is a fact?
