Sedation??

The one bad thing about sedation is you can't eat for a while before the sergery. I'm not sure if its no eating after midnight, or a certain number of hours before the sergery.

For most people its not an issue if you have diabetis or low blood sugar and prefer to eat on a regular schedule, the local in the mouth might be a better alternative. i have low blood sugar, and don't do well w/ the you can't eat after midnight thing. So, I did a local, didn't feel anything, I could feel some tugging, and my jaw was sore, since they have a clamp holding your mouth open wide.

I've had sedation for other procedures I get he first appmt in the morning. Its gone well for me, like a big nap. You just seem to close your eyes, and then your woken up like you just went to sleep and no time passed.

i have a slight case of hypoglycemia but it's nothing that major. they said just nothing that morining. i'll probably just drink some water before just incase. the only thing i'm worried about is.........when am i gonna eat that day, period!? lol.

I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth taken out when I was in 9th grade. I had to be put completely asleep so they could take them. They had not starting coming in yet but they had taken xrays because I was getting braces and they saw where they were going to be coming in sideways. I did fine and I was eating pizza for dinner the night I had them taken out. So you will be fine and you won't starve i promise!

I was also put out for removing all of my wisdom teeth. This was over 20 years ago. I remember them asking me to count backwards from 100, and I don't remember making it to 90. Also that they had a bit of trouble waking me up afterwards, so they called my mom in (I think I was 16 at the time.)

She was telling to me to wake up in this gentle sing-song voice, just like she used to do when I was little, and I responded in kind, saying that I didn't WANT to wake up. She then said that if I couldn't keep my eyes open, they weren't going to let me go home, and I began to SOB, and whined, "But I want to go hoooooome!" Very funny once I had all my wits about me, but I was horridly embarrassed.

I've heard of other people doing far more embarrassing things, like swearing like a sailor, or commenting on a nurse's spectacular assets, so I guess whining like a baby isn't so bad. ;)

Oh, and when we got home I crawled into bed (this is in the AM), and woke up around 7PM. I think I was up for a few minutes, took some pain medication because the throbbing had begun, and then could barely hold my head up, so went back to bed for the night!

PS. As for what to eat? My mom got me a milkshake. If they're saying no straws, make it a Wendy's Frosty instead and eat it with a spoon. The cold felt great. And YUM!

my fiance's mom told me that he has problems being woken up from that too. but she said not to worry.

they're not putting me out(which i wish they would, but he doesn't do that in his office) so i will be awake. hopefully i just won't care lol.

pizza!? wow.....i hope that my experience is like yours! all of mine are coming in straight, it's just that there's no room for them. plus, the bottom ones that are impacted, their roots haven't really actually grown in yet, so those ones will be pretty easy to come out once he gets to the bone(ew!). so i'm hoping it won't be so bad.

I had the same deal as Mandy in NC--braces, and my wisdom teeth had to be removed before they came in. I had mine done over Christmas break when I was in high school. They actually admitted me to the hospital the evening before, did the surgery the next morning, and back home same day. Good luck and enjoy the sedation :3dglasses
