Security deposit question :-)

I'm just curious how long we should expect it to take to receive our security deposit back? The owners of the villa are in the UK but we sent payment to the management company and not them. Should I contact them both? Just curious how long I should wait?? Thanks!

It depends on the owners and what they have in their terms.Some do it within 2 weeks others -if they don'y have all free calls for example -wait until they get the utility/phone bills in and see if there are excessive charges . Does it not give a time scale in any paperwork you have?

I think you have up to 30 days from departure legally. It should say it in the lease.

One of the things I've started looking for in rental homes is the ability to leave a credit card swipe rather than pay a cash deposit. Many mgmt companies seem to be willing to do this. Even for places that charge a credit card processing fee, that's okay---I generally don't expect to pay on it, and if my kids (or I ) ruin/break something, the extra 4% is no big deal.

I would contact both and ask how long before you can expect to receive a refund. On the whole, I have had positive experiences in all aspects of vacation home rental, but this is one area where owners often fall down. I hate having to chase them - I consider it should happen automatically within the specified timescale, but my experience is otherwise. I make sure I pay on time and I would like them to afford me the same courtesy.
