Security check before park entrance

Our family is planning our 1st trip to Disneyland. We've gotten alot of great info from all on the DISboards - thanks. My question is regarding the security check before entering either park. Other threads have said that if you're in line when the security shows up they will make you leave your spot and go thru security. Is this everyone or just those with bags? Thanks

You actually pass through the security check before you get to the entrance where you would be standing in line. Everyone goes through it. It isn't a hassle at all.

You're talking about if you get there so early that security isn't there when you get there. Those in the know say that everyone has to go back through.

So if the people aren't there when you get there, just wait at the bag check tables. I wouldn't risk losing spots in hopes that they don't want everyone to go back.

yep, everyone with or without bags has to go thru the security line.

Maybe a description of the area will help.


There is a big plaza shaped like a square. Disneyland's entrance is the top of the square, California Adventure's entrance is the bottom and the security checkpoints are on the sides of the square. The ticket booths are inside the square and so are the actual lines to the park entry turnstiles. (T is the Ticket Sales booth and SEC is the security tents.)

As Bumbershoot said - don't go straight to the turnstiles if you get there too early and security isn't there. Stop where I marked "Sec" on the drawing and wait in line there. It's a non-issue, if you arrive after the security personnel - you have to filter through the security area before you even access the plaza.

Best news is that once you do the security check in that spot, it's done for both parks - as long as you don't leave the Plaza. If you go out to DTD or your hotel and come back, you simply have to pass through it again.

Yep, I can confirm. Me and my son were there at about 6am one morning in August. We were basically just roaming around before MM. No one around except CM's inside DL. Security eventually did a sweep of the esplanade and had anyone there go back on the other side of the bag-check area and start forming a line. Very painless.

Thanks. All I can say is thank goodness for "preview post"! In doing that, I discovered that, in this forum program, spaces aren't recognized when you are doing a "text graphic". That's why I had to do the underlines. Only took about 2 to 3 minutes to set up (before preview and then a minute to fix it after). Gotta love "copy and paste"!
