Security at the Theme Parks

I heard earlier today that Universal is adding baggage x-ray scanners similar to those used at airports at their baggage check area just before City Walk. If this is true where will the lines be drawn? I'm all for safety in the parks, but this just seems to be a bit extreme and was wondering what others thought? Personally I'd rather not have the theme parks start my day with the negative thoughts that are associated with dealing with the TSA checkpoint at an airport.

I had some friends visiting the parks today looking to see if Kong was starting to soft open or not and they heard some security guards talking about it.

only time i have seen metal detectors up has been at a hard ticket event for hhn.
all went smooth at the gates where it was done and the only tie ups were when a person left keys in their pockets.

i know hard ticket events has a lot more scrutiny for entering the parks.
high volumne times it can be done then also.

interesting to see how this rumor goes.
keep us posted if you hear more.

I have no problems with added security measures. These parks are where we take our families. Their safety is very important to me.

Sadly this is the world we live in now. If Universal does the scanners as far as I'am concerned it shows they care about the safety of their park guests.

SAD but this is the reality of our world, sports stadiums, theme parks, etc. If it is going to make the venues safer, then I will be possibly "inconvenienced" by a longer line, oh well!:goodvibes::yes::

It is a new way of life with security now at many places .
the generations growing up now will accept it as normal

Peeps that are used to the former way of no extra security, will eventually accept it as there is no way of getting around it

I personally just don't see the added benefit of having a bag scanner. I have a hard enough time keeping up with my items when it comes to them looking through my bag and passing it past the metal detector, but going through the same process as the airport with a lot less organization with a bag sounds like a good way to lose an item. That's just personal preference though.

My desire to be at the darkside park, trumps any thoughts about added security

Wonder how this will work for lanyard wearers? Having a lanyard separate from the owner is a good way for someone to swipe it. JMT

Yes, went yesterday and went through metal detectors and bag scanners. Everything went through like in the airport (I only bring lanyard, phone and sunglasses). We were early so it might have changed later but there were no "no bag" lines first thing in the am.

Everything went as usual for me yesterday, as I never bring a bag, so I just have to give my items away. Also, I was at the HRH, so I do not know if that makes a difference as to how much equipment that is used? However, while I never noticed any new additional equipment, I captured this sign.

While there have always signs, I never paid attention to the details. Do not know if there's any changes to the sign, could be the same one, but it does clearly state "x-ray machines".

You know they've done this on cruise ships for as long as I can remember. Mostly so they know if you're bringing alcohol back on the ship and customs stuff I believe.... But they seem to have a very efficient way of doing it. If it does come to this I'm sure universal will figure out an efficient way. Plus, quite a few of us come from on-site venues... Would they go through the expense to build permanent structures at the boat ramps to do this? That's a lot of XRAY bag machines.... I also hear the valet lines are much shorter than the other from parking decks. Anyways, I've never once lost an item with it going through an XRAY. Actually feel like you'd be less likely to unless you're talking about having to take things out of your pockets and such. My brothers always stuck their pocket stuff in my bookbag before we got to the machines so they didn't risk dropping anything in the water on the ramp.

Right now they have the standing metal detectors at all of them. Well, I guess I got wanded at the boat ramp. They also go through my bag pretty good while I'm getting wanded.

Also... why would we have to take off your lanyard? I've never once had to remove it to get wanded or walk through a machine. There's not enough metal on it to go off. I even wear it on the rides that say NOTHING IN YOUR POCKETs.. because well it's my express pass.

I'm on both side of the fence here.. I'd like to say added security is fantastic! and I'd also like to think that things are just way blown out of proportion. There's always been bad people and bad things happening. Things are going to happen. But... I get it. Try to catch them if you can.

Oh, and I do want to say I have always felt safe at Universal and I'm glad that they do care enough to keep it that way. I like to walk around city walk and have a drink or two.. I wouldn't do that if I didn't feel safe. So glad that they've been able to provide a great family friendly area that we can all feel safe and secure in.

.

Every metal detector walk through I have done has had you remove any metal item, which is why I asked about the lanyards since they have a small metal clip. As for loose items, none of us carry a bag so we don't have to worry with lockers.
