Is Universal and islands of Adventure using metal detectors and/or "shaking you down" before you enter the parks? I read on here they are doing it for Halloween night, but what about EVERYDAY on a regular basis?? Who can we write to or email about our concerns - wanting the fullest security possible at this time? I may still cancel. Thank you.

Everyday as you enter your bags are searched-To save time I highly recommend packing lightly, and have your stuff ready to be inspected as you enter the gate.

Searching your bags, purses, baby bags, coolers, etc is NOT enough during this time, even at the Football games, they are "shaking you down" (checking your body), why should these large family parks have anything less??? (and why MORE protection on a Halloween night- it should be EVERYDAY) A terroist is going to put a gun close to his body- not in any bag. My fear is an "open firing attack", these fanatical terrorists WANT to die anyway so they can meet their 72 virgins in the heavens, and cause further fear and ruin our economy, it would be INEXCUSABLE to me if this happens in one of these wonderful Parks- THEN they want to use the metal detectors or wands or whatever they do to detect a gun. I hate to feel like I am risking my children's life to take a vacation. How does everyone else feel about this, wouldn't you like MORE obvious secuirty? Thank you

hhnfreak: Thank you soooo much for your reply.....I LOVE hearing they are doing things, going above and beyond, what the public knows about, this is definetly comforting. It's like you can't say tooo much, but on the other hand- you think if you advertise ALL the security measures-(policemen with guns, in & out of unimforms, metal detectors) they would think twice before making these places a target. I have no doubt they choose our airplanes due to the fact it was well known America had NO security in the skys, thought they could catch EVERYTHING on the ground. It's like at the Parks, I wouldn't at all be comfortable IF they thought they could catch everything at the gates either! Thank you again.

Violet, I myself share your concern about safety. My husband & I are going next weekend 10/20 to 10/22 to both Seaworld & HHN. We're also planning a 2nd trip this Dec to Disney & Universal (staying 3 nights PBH). While my relatives think I'm nuts & prefer the "stay home, stay safe" attitude, I don't. What's next, don't go to work or malls ? I myself feel re-assured that Universal is doing it's best to keep me safe & for the rest I trust my government. We can't let the terrorists win. We can't allow them to ruin our economy. Already so many people have lost their jobs. I'm doing my small part & I know are all of us are too. So enjoy your trip with your family !!! :-)

Hey guys, I think I can relax once I am there, but I can't still get past the airplane thing......

I felt incredibly safe on Saturday (10/13) at HHN Universal. They checked my purse--not like normal at other places where they just peer inside. They made me take out every single thing in it--so like others have said, pack light as possible. They also ran th metal detectors up, down, in front, in back, and in between... all OVER. I felt very safe, and I'm one of the people who was very apprehensive about leaving my house in wake of the FBI's warnings of possible future attacks. Not only were there security personnel looking through bags and running the detectors, but some stood behind them, looking at the incoming crowd. I felt very safe the entire time... once I got through the gates, my only worry was what was going to jump out at me where. :)

While I was there a couple of weekends ago, I didn't think they did a great job with security (JMO). One day they made me empty my back pack, but never went to the bottom of my stroller filled with stuff. The next day which was busier they just waved us through but hey I was with three kids & no DH so I guess I didn't look suspicious! What I didn't like was the planes flying overhea, I would think that it would be a "NO fly zone" over all theme parks. I didn't notice any large commercial jets but lots of small planes. It didn't hinder my plans in any way.
