I am going to the world labor day week and I'm terrified as to how much security they have in the parks. I'm watching the news about all of the mass shootings and I'm worried. Does anyone know if security is on high alert in all of the parks?? And Disney Springs???

Of course they're on high alert. It's one of the most popular family oriented tourist destinations in the world. One of the worst mass shootings happened 15 minutes away from the parks. I also get nervous at WDW in crowded areas (waiting for bag check, etc.) but let's be real-nowhere is safe anymore. Our kid's schools, our churches, movie theaters, going shopping for school supplies at a Walmart, grabbing a drink at a bar, attending a concert. There is security - it is abundant and that's just from what I've seen (I'm sure there is tons that we will never know of) but nowhere is 100% safe.

Well, I will tell you that on Tuesday, there was a heightened presence of Anaheim PD in Downtown Disney in Disneyland. They were posted up like sentinels in several places, just watching the crowd. I haven't seen that before. They are usually patrolling in groups of 2, always on the move. This was 2 days after the Gilroy shooting in northern CA, so I suspect local law enforcement was on higher alert as a result of that.

I imagine the same will be the case in Florida at the Disney properties there.

I honestly don't think it matters how much security any one place has or what level alert they are on. :( At this point, I think it's just a matter of dumb luck whether you manage to avoid being someplace where gun violence occurs in this country. :(

There's a lot of damage someone can do before they ever get through the park security checkpoints. :( I know that's not what you want to hear, and I'm sorry for it, but that's how this country is these days.

Security is very tight going into the parks. That said, these shootings can and are occurring anywhere.

There's bag check and metal detectors to get into the parks.
There is not for Disney Springs.
Just realize that there can be a mass shooting anywhere like your local grocery store or church.
You should not live life in fear and if you are "terrified" to go to WDW then I'd stay home.

Disney is secure. They are on high alert. Everyone just needs to be viligant. "If you see something not right, say something".

As the popular saying goes, if you let the bad guys make you alter your plans for anywhere, then they have already won.

Disney as well as homeland security will do a outstanding job. Count on it. I love our law enforcement. Keeping standards high and spending extra time checking guests has to be done. If you think your not being observed coming up to the gate ...guess again.

We have stayed onsite 40+ times over the past 10 years and on our trip this past weekend, I've never seen more thorough searches at bag check. The bag check perimeters are also very far back from the parks themselves. Could something happen? Of course. As others have mentioned, these mass shootings are happening anywhere and everywhere. It's so horrible. There is no place that is 100% safe. I was terrified just sitting in the movie theater watching Spider Man yesterday. But WDW certainly appears to have a ton of measures in place to keep guests and staff as safe as they possibly can.

I understand your concern - it's almost impossible to be alive these days and not have a concern at some point.

That said, Disney does everything they can to keep their guests and cast members safe. As others have said, be aware of your surroundings and if something doesn't seem right, contact a cast member.

Go and enjoy your vacation.

I have zero worries about being in a Disney park. Their security is as thorough as one would hope for. Now I am having second thoughts about our planned excursion to the Florida Mall. Somewhat but not completely irrational at this point..

I'm more concerned about my kid's school than Disney World. I never feel unsafe there.

Gun control is the best way to make America safer. A shame legislators refuse to do anything about it.
