I'm traveling with a digital camera for the first time, do I need to worry about anything when going through x-ray and security? Anything else I should be aware of ?
I just flew in June with my laptop and digital camera - and there were no problems - you do have to send them thru the xray machine, but there were no warnings and no ill effects.
Not sure about a film camera, but I haven't used film in years.

This does not happen as much anymore with the increased security, but there is a scam that can be pulled in the security line. There would be two criminals in line right in front of you. The first goes on through. The second one will have something to set off the alarm and will cause a scene causing you to not be able to go through the line even though your stuff has likely already gone through the x-ray. On top of that, your instinct is to watch the scene playing out in front of you while the other person walks away with your stuff.
Like I said, it does not happen much anymore with the increased security, but just keep an eye on your stuff until it is back in your hands no matter what.
No problems really with security, I had my SDLR camera checked by security on the way back, but thats probably because of the amount of electronic gadgets i had stuffed in my bag!!
As fort anyone using film - get film hand checked especially if its over ISO 800.
