"Secret" walkway from HRH to Universal?

I remember some discussion on the walkway to Universal Studios from the HRH by way of the pool area. Has anyone tried it lately? I thought you could use it then thought you couldn't. Thank you!

There is another pathway that is closer than the water taxi route. When you enter the pool area bear left and there is a gate. It requires a key to get back in.

Motherfletcher- Will the room key work or is it key for the employees there?

The room key or card is the key that opens everything for you including the express line at the attractions and a table at the restaurants.
