If you drive behind MK, you will notice a new road. The road was a dirt road but now has concrete. They added a security guard and gate. Lots of signs and appears to be top secret, "DO NOT ENTER." Anyone know where this road goes to?

If you drive out of the Grand Floridian, make a right, it would be about 1/2 a mile down on the left.

WHERE DOES THIS ROAD GO?? WHY IS IT SOO SECURE??

What's this, what's happening, whats going on?

:confused3 Don't know, but it should prove to be interesting. I would hope for a new park. But if it is, why would they put an enterance so close to other things...wouldn't they want to keep it a secret for a bit longer?

I just read the other day that they are working on a new Reedy Creek Fire Station just beyond the GF (not sure where I read this... Mouseplanet perhaps). Could this be what it is?

Now you've got me curious too, someone please tell us!

But if it was a new park, would they put it that close to the MK, when there is more open WDW property elsewhere like closer to Celebration?

I did the Backstage Magic Tour last year (the seven hour one) and I ended up back in that general area. There are so many "behind the scenes" things back there. The Disney Florist, the storage area for Holiday Items, Woodworking shop, etc.

If they are making the new fire station in that vacinity I would imagine they don't want to have to travel on dirt roads.

I rememebr it was originally dirt because Disney likes to spend the majority of their money "on stage" where guests can benefit rather than "back stage". Perhaps the signs are now to make it so that a guest doesn't think they are heading towards a new resort, etc back there hence 'Do not enter".

But I could be wrong . . .

Is this in the vicinity of the air strip?? There has been a rumor about a new DVC resort back there.....hmmmm.......

I wanna know! :Pinkbounc

Nope; it's the opposite side of the MK from STOL. I was back there, at least as far as behind Frontierland, last January as the half marathon goes backstage and then heads down toward the GF and wedding pavillion.

There are lots of internal roads. They don't mean a new park. A former dirt road probably couldn't have supported construction traffic to Pooh's waste of real estate, etc. very well.

Hi all,
basiclly behind the mk there is very little room, now maybe to the left of the mk there is a lot of room.Behind the mk there are a couple of things first the monorail and bus depot(where the monorails park at night )also it is said that there next to the monorail depot is the mecanics garage for the buses owned by disney. Then there is a Power sub station, and last some kind of housing i believe it to be for the disney college program but i could be wrong. To the right is a area they leave the parts for dead attractions,if you use google earth and look at this area you will be able to see some of the subs from 20,000 leagues under the sea there. Its a ride graveyard now.To the left of the mk is where they have the most open space and room for another park ,resorts or anything else. However recent interviews with ceo's and higher ups with disney have made one point very clear,No new parks are in the plans anywhere in the us right now, they want to concentrate all thier ideas at exsisting parks right now,one of the reasons why we saw several new rides open up at exsisting parks in orlando. It could be anything so don't get your hopes up a new road is hardly a new park being built, but like many of you, i think it would be very cool if they did build a new park, but i don't think it to be feesiable right now.Maybe a new fire house and if so,anyone know where i can get a job applacition? :teeth:

Sorry but this is not the entrance to a new park :( The area you are referencing is not new, they just paved the road into it. It has always been a secured area with limited access. It is known as the Boneyard (or graveyard). Basically it is where ride vehicles (among other things) go to die. When Disney does not reuse ride vehicles (ie: the 20K submarine at Castaway Cay) or put them up for auction they sink, burn or bury them. The area you saw is the new entrance into the "bury" location. The area has always been secured as no one is allowed back there without clearance.

In reference to the above post about the 20K subs, there were 20K subs out in the "pluto" parking lot just past the Contemporary. This is the parking lot for MK managers and office and technical staff. They were there for a long time but have since be moved. I just wanted to point that out, since I was not sure if you were referencing that area or the actual "boneyard" that is behind Frontierland.

Doh!....... I was getting excited then to a new park! Oh well keep hoping

There won't be a new park for at least 10 years. At least! MGM and Animal Kingdom need a lot of work and the next 10 years will be spent on those alone as well as renovating hotels, water parks, etc.

The area behind the MK is for CMs only. I'm not sure which one you are mentioning but there are many things, such as Casting (after their most recent move), Company D, Access Control and more around that area.

Casting hasn't moved... it is still located across the street from Downtown Disney Marketplace.

As Humphrey mentioned the area you are referencing is the Boneyard...they have just recently paved it and added a new security entrance to it.

Well, to get my new ID when I was down there last month, I had to take a cab to Casting, which was not near Team Disney like it used to be, but behind the Magic Kingdom near Access Control. Maybe it was just temporary? I don't know. Either way, they're not building a new park...

I am not sure if this is the same road - buy Ricky from "Inside the Magic" has some video of him driving behind the MK.

See http://distantcreations.com/**************/archive.html

Look for show 59 and he has the video as a suppliment.

Casting does not issue CM ID's they are issued by Access Control. It was located in a trailer in the DU parking lot. It has since moved inside the DU building.

The CRAB office inside the Casting Center at DTD will however handle benefits and replacement or updating of Main Gate Passes.

The video link above is great...A road I drive everyday and I was still fascinated with it :)

As far as the video goes though...Yes and no, it "is" the same road, but he didn't go there, he turned off too soon. After Space Mountain you will see a road on the right that is where the "pluto" parking lot that I mentioned in my post (where they had the subs from 20k for the longest time) is, it is a parking lot for management. When he got to the train tracks he turned right and went past the roundhouse. The things you are seeing there are the Roundhouse (train, monorail and bus maintenance and storage), then you pass Christmas services, you will then see the wardrobe building and the bus turnaround for MK cast member parking (they are bused in to the tunnel entrance from there), when he turns the camera it is Disney University, were training classes are held (there is also a company store, the bank, and other Cast facilites), you will see the drive through ATM for the bank in the parking lot, then he makes the turn onto a back road that heads left to Winter Garden or right back towards Orlando.

If he had gone straight instead of turning by the roundhouse he would have gone past the fireworks launch site and then come up on the entrance to the boneyard before coming out by the Grand Floridian.

Also just to not confuse anyone Casting is still out by Downtown Disney... ID's are issued at Security Access Control which is at the Disney University Building.
