I'm driving myself crazy trying to figure out which CS places to choose. DH is vegan and DD and I are vegetarian. When looking at the menus on allearsnet.com I am running into the same scenario over and over...the reseraunt has a vegan (or a modifiable vegan) item on the adult menu, but no vegetarian children's meal. Or vice versa, they have a veggie kiddie meal, but nothing that looks like it would easily convert to a vegan meal for an adult. All you vegetarians (or vegetarian sympathizers) out there, do you know which CS places have veggie items that you can ask for that are not on the menu?
Does anyone know if all the CS places have veggie burgers even if it does not appear on the menu? Like Pinnochio's Village Haus for example? Will places like Cosmic Rays that don't have a veggie children's item, but do have a veggie burger and a veggie wrap on their menu, be willing to make a child's meal with a child's portion of the adult menu item?
Thanks in advance to anyone who knows where the off menu veggie options can be found! :wave2:

Cosmic Ray's used to have a veggie burger and a great condiment bar.

Yes, I understand your struggle :) I'm a vegetarian, too. I must say that WDW has come a long way since I first visited in 1991, however.
I would suggest Columbia Harbor House in Liberty Square. They have a really good hummus and broccoli slaw sandwich (not sure if vegan, but it was a oil and vinegar based cole slaw if I recall correctly). They also have salads and veggie chili, along with macaroni and cheese for kids.
We did also have veggie burgers at Cosmic Ray's but they were pretty bad.
If you check out the all ears Web site, they have a pretty good area devoted to vegetarian dining at WDW.
BTW, I'm going in Sept. and can't wait to check out sit-down restaurant at Animal Kingdom, awesome veggie selections.
Good luck! :wizard:

We are vegetarian too (family of 5) so I will mention a few places we like to eat. At MK, Columbia Harbor House is far and away the best CS for vegetarian. We also like to grab a smoothie at Auntie Gravities. At AK, Tusker House has a really good veggie wrap, and macaroni for kids. They always serve lots of fresh fruit as garnish for the wrap, which I love. At Epcot, the Tangierian Cafe's vegetarian dishes are to die for! The hummus wrap is good and the veggie plate...wonderful. The kids get french fries there but also love the Mediteranean dips and bread. Throw in some espresso and baklava for the adults, and get some ice cream or Kaki Gori near Japan for the kids. At MGM, we usually eat TS (Mama Melrose's) and not CS, because we love the Italian vegetarian we get there.

I'm struggling with the same issue. I'm veggie and so is DD, but she also has an egg allergy. We are also not doing peanuts yet so the choices for her are really limited. I'm probably going to end up carrying in some food for her in the event that we can't find anything to her liking.

Thanks for the suggestions so far! :sunny:

Does anyone know which CS places have veggie burgers or other veggie options that aren't on the standard menu? I think I have read in trip reports about people getting veggie burgers even when they weren't listed and I'm wondering if all the CS places have them, or just some.

Yikes! Lots of mac and cheese coming your way too! We figure we are going to have to carry some snacks into the park too. I also think I will trade some of my meal with DD so she doesn't OD on mac and cheese and cheese pizza.

Has anyone been to Tusker House lately? I know their veggie sandwich used to be vegan friendly but I heard they changed it to a pita with cheese in it. Is that true?

Unfortunately, no mac and cheese for her (which she loves) because the WDW mac and cheese has egg whites in it. Argh!!! I've figured out which CS restaurants we can eat at for every park but MK. I'm hoping that they might be able to give us the "Chilled chicken with cheese cubes" at Columbia Harbour House without the chicken. If they can't prepare it without the cheese, I'm debating whether or not I'll just pick the chicken out (something I am not normally okay with in real life).

When we were at Tusker House in January, the sandwich had been changed from the awesome foccacia bread sandwich with roasted veggies and hummus to the horrible (IMHO) pita bread sandwich with veggies, salad dressing, and feta cheese.

You can ask at the counter. They will actually, in most cases, bring out a chef. Most of them will accommadate you. We had an instance where we went to Norway (not vegetarian) and the child's selection is peanut butter & jelly. My grandson is allergic to peanuts and couldn't have it. They made him up his own meal of 1/2 of any adult selection of the sandwich and the rest of the meal was the kiddie type. Also, are you making ADR's???? Be sure to let them know because almost every restaurant on property will make you up a "special" dish.... And be sure to let them know that you need veg kids meals also. As far as the places, I believe Cosmic Ray's veggie burger is veg but not vegan. I think it has cheese in it. The CS places are more difficult, that's for sure. You mostly end up with either fruit salad (but sometimes just beautiful ones) or veggie salads. At restaurantosaurus in AK, they have a chicken mandarin salad.... just order it without the chicken and it's a great salad. At MGM, flatbread grill has a nice salad...At EPCOT, I believe Sunshine Seasons had a vegan option. Just ask them. Also, in the American Adventure area, they have a couple of nice salad options to order without cheese or meat. Tangerine Cafe in Morocco has a veg option. I was reading in the book Vegetarian Disney & Orlando that the question about Morocco is that the couscous may be turned with butter... That's the only thing that MAY make it non vegan so if your dh isn't severely strict on it, that would be an excellent choice for meal. I may have the updated website for the authors of that book (they have update posts on vegging in Disney) and if so, I'll let you know. ... And of course, in MK, they have the vegan chili and hummus etc. at columbia harbor house. They also have a nice salad at Pinocchio's Village Haus... ask for it without meat/cheese and it's still nice salad... along with the others I mentioned.... Nice salads... Also, Starring Rolls in MGM may be willing to do something for you.

HI there,
We are also a family of 5 veggies(lactoovo), we often will go to the cantina de san angel and request the burrito w/just bean and the kids love them.
Spoodles also has a good selection, we do eat a lot of veggie burgers but usually end being charged for adult meals for the kids, there was a nice stuffed pepper I really enjoyed last year at 50's prime time.
Counter service at MgM at ABC commissary had some nice selections last year as well.
Have a great vacation.

I'm disappoitned to hear they changed the AK sandwich. There a couple other options, though.
The Rainforest Cafe has a very good veggie sandwich and is right on site. Or, a short hop to AK Lodge and their sit-down restaurant offers some very interesting veggie and vegan selections. Look at the menu online. Pricey, but if you're on the dining plan like us, I think it may be one of the best meals you'll find for vegetarians.
