I have been using a Film Canon Rebel T2 for the last couple of years.... Today I bought a Canon Digital Rebel Xti. I think I am going to have a heart attack for spending that much... Was it a good thing to do? :scared1:

Let me say that I spent all day running around taking pictures and am now in love.

So, your picture taking total, will probably increase 10 fold or more, because you no longer have to pay for film processing and printing. With film I might have taken 10 rolls of film on a week vacation, or 240 shots. I take more than that on a single day now that I have digital. That alone to me makes it worth the cost.

Plus you can now share your photos with friends and family much easier as they are digitized and you can email or post them on a site for sharing.

All in all, in less than a week you'll be wondering why it took you so long to move to digital.

Of course! You'll make up the savings on digital vs film, not to mention the immediate gratification of seeing your work.

Welcome to the XTi family!

Well, you'll almost certainly be happier with the DSLR than a film SLR, and you'll certainly be much happier with a DSLR than a point-n-shoot digital.

The XTi is fairly expensive for the features it offers, though, compared to the competition (unless you place a very high value on 10mp vs 6mp or 8mp, which I don't think you should), and this is especially true if you bought it from a "big box" retailer instead of somewhere online like Beach Camera.

If you're concerned about cost, you can still find Rebel XTs and look at the Pentax K100D or Nikon D40 (or D50, if you can still find it.) The K100D is my favorite among all the entry-levels and happens to be about the cheapest, too.

congratulations! you bought a great camera and if you are like me will wonder why it took you so long to get a digital..not familiar with the model of your old camera but presuming it is eos slr?..if so your old lenses should work with your new camera as is if they are canon, some third party have to be rechipped.( for sigma that is like $10 so worth it if the lens is good) so that makes your purchase extra good ;)

I remember buying one of the first camcorders. It cost well over $2,000.00.

It took about two cassettes to more than offset the cost over film.
