I always wondered why they don't just develop the rest of the island on CC? Seems like they only use a small portion of the island, like only 15%-20% of the total island.

It's likely the remaining land on the island is not suitable for development, or the lease with the Bahamian govt (remember, they don't actually "own" the island) only allows development of so much of the island.

Probably the same reason the last deal fell through...environmental study probably prevents it from happening.

I'm sad, haven't even been to Castaway Cay...we skipped it due to a hurricane... well maybe we can hope for a double dip itinerary

I believe part of the agreement for Disney to use the island was an agreement that the major portion of the island remains "natural".

I know there is quite a bit of housing and buildings where they store emergency equipment, and keep environmental studies and testing for plants, water, etc. (we talked for quite a while one time to a CM who lives there).

It is a beautiful island and when you go up in the tower and look around, much of the structures are well hidden by nature.
