I know some of you questioned when I started the thread about the CEO being "gone" (I still believe that within a year he will be nowhere to be found) but there is no questioning this one - the mimes that were a favorite before the Clyde and Seamore show were part of the layoffs on Friday.

SeaWorld would only say that mimes were not planned for the pre-show once Clyde and Seamore return, but would not confirm that they were laid off. Several news outlets are reporting they were laid off including their fan club.

SeaWorld did confirm that the pearl divers will also no longer be appearing.

It was reported over at Orlando United that Scott Swenson Director of Creative Services at Busch Gardens was also let go. He had been the Creative Director behind Howl O Scream since the beginning.

Any and all jobs lost are very sad no matter what position they were in. Its a very sad time. Alure the call of the ocean is also closing in January now too.

give it time things will get better and SeaWorld will be back and on top again. I will not stop supporting this wonderful place

The mimes were my favorite part of the Clyde and seamore show. I might cancel our trip I was planning there in April now. Booooo SeaWorld!

That is so sad. I loved the mimes. I hate when places start changing things. If it's not broke don't fix it. The reason the park is suffering is the whole Blackfish fiasco. Do more about PR to show people how you are helping the envirnment, try to counter or address the concerns, don't punish the workers.

We visited SeaWorld 4 part days between DEC 17 & 26 th. We always get such a wonderful "I'm home" feeling from this park. No trip have we never done SW at least once but usually more. The first full day of vacay we went and it was very hard to find my warm fuzzy feeling :( As we walked around knowing Clyde & Seymour isn't running right now, the mimes are gone, A'lure is leaving, the Pearl divers. We were just SAD!! We know things, hopefully improve, over these bumps. We went back 2 evenings for the Xmas stuff and on Xmas day for a few hours.. By far the best Xmas shows from all the parks. They do Xmas beautifully. It was very quiet the first day we went. I think it was the 17th but man alive compared to last year, the rest of our visits, it was SUPER busy. I just kept hoping, there its crazy in here let's hope it helps :)

300 people in all the SW parks is really small compared to the regular layoffs at the Disney parks. It is sad to see the Mimes go, but their show ended and won't be anything going at that stadium till spring. The cirque show shutting down is not an unheard of thing to happen at Disney either. Ever wonder what used to be in the building by the lake at EPCOT? etc. Also in winter the water park closes on cold days and even has scheduled days where park is closed for refurbisment while crowds are smaller because of the cooler temps, so it is cost effective to lay off people right now. Come spring I bet we hear about a big hiring campaign. It seems sometime like the media wants to just make Sea World look bad and make the world think that that awful documentary which I shall not name is the reason for this years layoffs......but just like at Disney and the other parks with progress, seasons, etc. someimes people are laid off. Just weird that they chose to announce it before Christmas. Maybe the Mimes will be called back in the spring if still available. With lay offs you do get to draw unemployment so maybe just a hiatus and we will see them in the parks again soon.

That being said, have you looked at the January shows Schedule. For a park that's known for it's shows with A'lure gone and Clyde and Seamore in refurbishment the shows schedule is down to 3 shows. During a typical summer and Christmas season they have 8-10 shows at least on select nights and during a typical off season they still have 5 shows.

Thank you so much for posting this. You hit the nail on the head with these comments. The media is out to attack SeaWorld every chance they can get. Like you said the cuts happen at Disney all the time too but it never makes the news like it does when it is SeaWorld. As for the popular act with the mimes look at all he entertainment acts that got cut at Disney this year. It happens. Any job loss is sad though but its how corporate America works.

As for the number of shows Clyde and Seamore returns in middle of February and the show line up will be back to 4. Come spring and summer and Christmas time we will have all of our seasonal shows back too. There are exciting moments coming to SeaWorld and I truly believe a bright future is on the horizon.
