Seats on the bus

I have an opinion on this, but will just say that I found it really interesting on our last trip that young men offered to give up their seats more often than older men and by older, I do not mean elderly. The man that was most chivalrous was a 20 year old firefighter from Boston. He looked tough as nails, but was so sweet to my boys. :thumbsup2

You've gotta love the firefighters! :thumbsup2

I give up my seat for the elderly, the pregnant, the children, those with disabilities (like with crutches or leg braces, etc.) and anyone else I know would appreciate the sit-down.

Needless to say, I stand a lot. But I also am proud to do so. :thumbsup2

You know what? I need to go edit my original post again, because I do the same thing, and I'm far from a man.

It should be able-bodied men or women who should give up their seat to someone who needs it more than they do.

I don't think anyone on here mentioned that they expected to get a seat, unless I missed something in a post. I think the OP was just shocked that an adult would allow a kid to take up two seats and leave other people standing.

My comment was about people not giving up their seats to people who genuinely have a need for them. I've stood on so many buses it's not even funny. As a matter of fact, to me, it's just a part of going to Disney. You do what you gotta do.

I didn't say anyone said they expected a seat, I said that people shouldn't expect one. Whatever, knew I shouldn't have posted.

You mean you can actually sit on those busses??? I am a 46 yr old female. Knees are shot. But I always stand. DH just hangs on to me. We will be driving down this time so at least I will not have to stand this time. ;)

I just took the words "dissenting voice" to mean that you were disagreeing with what someone said in an earlier post. I must've misread what you were saying. My bad! :sunny:

Oh, sorry. I meant that I was the dissenting voice in that I don't find it rude when other people don't give up their seats for people who are standing (although, there's no reason for a kid to take up two spaces!). I don't think that anyone here necessarily expects seats to be given up for them, but I think there is a general perception that people (especially men) who stay seated when others (especially people with kids or elderly people) are standing are rude. I mean, I get where it comes from, but I don't agree. And I said I knew I shouldn't have posted, because I know my opinion isn't a popular one.

(Note: I almost always wait for a less crowded bus.. I look healthy but have back problems and by the end of the night standing on a bus is h*ll.. And if I don't wait, I give up my seat, 'cause that's just how I work.)

This is no problem for me. If I can't get a seat in the very back of the bus; I prefer to stand. And a child taking up 2 seats is just plain ridiculous!!

And that's cool with me! You're definitely entitled to it! That's why I don't get this ---> popcorn::

I mean come on, we're talking about a bus ride. I can think of much better things to argue about than someone's opinion on sitting or standing. :teeth:

I do too! I have sciatica and it kills me to stand still on hard surfaces, when it's acting up. Lucky for me, mine wasn't inflammed when I went in March, or I'd have been "working" like you.

I do see what you're saying though. Actually it just sank into this hard head of mine. If you have a sleeping child, or can't stand due to whatever, wait for a less crowded bus to come along. Gotcha! :thumbsup2

I agree I give up my seat to anyone who looks like they need it more then me.
