Seating on the Plane

This will be the first time that Dh and I have flown with 2 children. DD has flown many times before, but this is the first time for DS. DD will be almost 4 when we fly to WDW and DS will be 13 months. Both kids have their own seats on the plane.

My qeustion is, if the plane is set up to seat 3 and 3 which way should we sit? Dh and the 2 kids on one side and me on the aisle seat next to them. Or split us 2 and 2? Dh really likes having a window seat and if I split us up he won't get his beloved window seat and some poor person would have to sit next to one of us and the baby.

I am leaning towards the 3 and 1 split. I would like to hear some suggestions though.

Remember that the baby's carseat has to go in a window position on a 3-3. If your DH really wants to have the window, I'd do three in a row w/ you on the aisle, the baby on the window, the older child in the center seat. Have your DH sit in the window seat in front of the baby, so that if he kicks the seatback, he won't be kicking a stranger. If your older child is well-behaved she can sit on the aisle, but that can be hazardous during the beverage service; small children tend to forget to keep their fingers and feet out of the path of the carts, and there is VERY little clearance in that aisle.

I forgot about the baby being at the window seat .... poor DH! Whatever will he do!

I like the idea of DH being infront, but what do you think about baby and me in 1 asile and dh and dd in the row infront?

So, what you're saying is you're actually flying with 3 children, right?

We prefer the 2 and 2 method. Two young children on a plane is a lot for one person to handle. I'd put the baby and DH in the window seats, and you and DD in the middle seats. As far as being front/back or across the aisle, I don't think it makes much difference. Across the aisle, you can see each other, but IMO, you can't converse easily because of the noise of the plane. Actually, since you will probably have somebody else in the aisle seats, front/back might be easier. HTH

We had this delema for the 1st time on our last trip to WDW. We flew with hubby and I and 2 1/2 year old DD, my 12 year old niece came with us for the 1st time. We were excited that neice could help amuse DD. On the way down we ended up with 2 and 2. (me with DD and hubby with Niece.) Halfway through the flight DD wanted to sit with dad so we swiched.

On the way home we ended up with 3 across and hubby in the back. Niece at window, DD in middle and me on ilse. Once again half way through flight she wanted dad, who was lucky enough to have an empty seat next to him, and she feel alseep back there.

Both seemed to work fine. Will both your children next to each other make things easier (amuse each other) or harder? If harder slipt them up and do 2 and 2.

Next year we will have a 3 year old and a 6 month old, and we will have to deal with this for all our trips from now on.

I don't know if they will be at each others throats or amusing to each other because ds is only 5 months right now. He will be a totally different person at 13 months I am sure.

I think that I am going to try and do the 2 and 2.

However, dh just threw a wrench in my plans by saying that he would like to save some money and drive.

The difference in price would be $325.35. Personally, I don't know if it's worth it. Flying is just soooooo easy! He has until 5:45pm today to make up his mind or I will lose the tickets I have on hold.

"potty" are easier if you sit 3 and 1...

That way, if the flight is crowded, you always have easy access to the aisle ...just a thought!!

We flew last Sept with our 2 and almost 4 year olds. We did 2 and 2. Window and middle seat. My daughter and I were directly behind DS & DH. I wouldn't want to do the 3 and 1. It was very easy this way, the kids didn't fight for toys or crayons or the like. I did it this way because I didn't want to be the one sitting with the 2 kids if they acted up. LOL

We have two girls and split up 2 and 2, DH and I buddy up with a girl each and we are travel partners for the trip. This way we each have a backpack of things for ourselves and our travel buddy, including change of clothes, books, and snacks etc. This elimates the "who has the goldfish", who has the coloring books fiasco. American Airlines has 3/2 seating so we try and get the 2 row seats, if not we choose asile middle.

I just took the tickets off of hold and bought them. Whew! I feel much better. I went ahead and did the 2 and 2 split. I think that it will be better that way.

TJ .... I like your idea of both parents having a bag for each of the kids. I think it will eliminate some problems.
