Seat size/guests of "size"

I would think this has come up but searching didn't yield any older threads. I see that Universal's description of ride restrictions says that some rides "may not" fit guests with 40" waists or larger. They then proceed to list at least 2/3rds of their rides. My waist is right around 40". I am 5'9" and wear a size 18 pants. Can anyone tell me from their experience if this would fit on the rides? I'll try the test seats of course but would like to have an idea what to expect before arriving. I'm hoping they exaggerate slightly in their description to ensure that anyone who might not fit is covered in the warning. It seems quite a bit more restrictive than other theme parks.

If you type Shrek sized at Universal into the search function above, there are a number of threads about size issues on rides......:thumbsup2

Some of the restraints can be tight.

Look for those old threads, some not that old, and see if you can compare yourself to someone.

A lot has to do with where you carry your weight.

Some of the rides have modified seating available. My son has to use that on FJ. He is not overly large, but he has big shoulders. Like he is wearing football shoulder pads. He had his DNA done and he came back as 19% Neanderthal. We figure that is where his shoulders and feet came from.

I really do not know if the modified seating is advertised anywhere, but if you struggle with the test seating, I would ask the person as you are going into the ride about it. My son struggled with the test seat, but the modified seating, the seats on each end, he fit fine.

You will be fine at 5'9" in a size 18 pant. You'll be able to ride everything, unless you happen to be extremely top heavy, in which case over the shoulder restraints may be a problem.

I'm your height, and I was able to ride everything when I was a size 22. When I was at my heaviest - a size 24 pant - I had a problem with Forbidden Journey late in the day (I was OK in the morning...I guess I was puffier later). For the record, I've worked hard and those 24s fall off me now.

On FJ, the ride attendants are great. If they think you are borderline, they will ask you to sit in an end seat, which are the ones that are modified. My biggest problem now is that I have had wrist surgery twice, and I don't have the arm strength to pull down the restraint consistently. I have to get it on the first try or I can't get it alone, and the attendants are no longer allowed to help.

I'm a little over 5'7" and wear a size 18 in pants, XL in unisex shirts. The only thing I notice, is the actual seat on Hulk is a bit snug, not the overhead restraint. I don't have any issues on any other rides.

Silly me, I searched for something like "large" sized :-)

Oh I know.

The search function is quite specific at times........weird!!!

The threads are mostly recent, so you should find them helpful.........but sounds like you’ll be just fine with the rides for the most part...........

The test seats are very useful if you aren’t sure, especially with FJ which seems to be quite neat for some.

I use the seat at the end and always ask for it on FJ, but TM are quite astute and if they think you need it they will automatically send you to that seat, so it’s not noticeable or obvious if anyone was a little embarrassed or nervous........

Good luck.......:)

I visited the parks last month with a relative who had some issues fitting on some of the rides. His problem was he carries all his weight up front and it's solid...cannot be squished. Anything with lap constraints was fine for him it was shoulder harness rides that were challenging. Your ability to ride depends on where you carry your weight vs harness ttpe

My SIL and her partner went a few years ago. They are farmers (so both solid and strong); she's 5'8" and at the time, she wore size 2x/24, he's 6'4" and wears a 3x. She said that neither of them had any issues on the rides, nor were they directed to the modified seats.

I must be some sort of anamoly. I'm about 5'8", and wear a size 18-22 depending on the brand. I could smoosh into the regular seats on Forbidden Journey, but the roomier seats are definitely more comfortable. I needed the larger size seat on Rip Ride Rockit. I did not ride the Dueling Dragons because the seat was SO uncomfortable on my hips/butt. I think I probably could have latched the restraint, but OMG, the seat part was awful. And I didn't ride Hulk, because no way was I going on that thing. Everything else was totally fine. Gringotts was a bit of a squeeze, but I think that had as much to do with the length of my legs as the size of my midsection. (I can ride everything at Disney with no problem.)

I just got back from our latest Universal trip last week. I'm 5'6", no clue on current weight but wear size 18 pants, 14 tops, pretty substantial cup size (H). For the first time ever, I didn't need the modified seat on any ride, not Hulk, not FJ, not Gringotts. I was amazed actually. I got in the usual modified seat and ended up having to get out of it for someone else to get in. I've fit in RRR fine, though we didn't ride it this trip (DH hates it)
