We (3 adults + 2 kids) are booked on Delta. The tickets are paid for and we got our seat assignments when we booked. I found out yesterday that our seats have been changed (from row 4 & 5 to row 34) They technically put my 7yr old across the isle from my husband, myself and my 11yr old (but I intend to have my husband or myself sit in that seat). They also moved my mother who is traveling with us, but put her in row 39. Is it normal for them to change seat assignments?

I have had my seat changed three times since I booked my flight in January. Part of this has to do with Delta changing the equipment on the plane, and part of it has to do with our flight now being on Song.

How booked is the flight? Can you change your seat assignments on the internet? I've changed mine a couple of times, and I check back because more favorable seats will pop up sometimes.

There are only 6 available seats left and they are scattered.

Check Delta's web-site daily. You should be able to see what seats are open. They do change. If you see an opening, call. I've had 2 flights cancelled and my seats re-assigned 5 times so far. I keep calling Delta/Song. I should have them on my speed dial!!

The airlines also hold seats that can only be assigned at the airport. If you don't get them changed ahead of time ask when you get to the airport. If the flight is full you might not be able to change them ahead of time.

If you are very determined, you can call the airline and ask to speak to someone in Inventory. Sometimes when you use their lingo, suddenly they are willing to help you.

The problem with doing this is that your seats will likely change again before your flights since they will probably swap out the equipment again!

This unforunately has happened to me a few times, not with very good results. Once, I was flying with DH, DD3 and DS 4 months (we had bought him a seat). We were scattered all over the plane!! Yes, my 4 month old was unaccompied!! I h ad double checked our seat assignments about a week before, and everything as fine, well at check-in we were scattered. I complained to everyone, and eventually had to hold up boarding until we were seated together (well 2 and 2). I couldn't believe it would happen, since the airline knew that these were small children (they ask for their birthday). Oh well, a lesson learned. I always re-confirm my seats at least twice per week, in the few weeks leading up to trip.

Our seats were changed once when the equipment was changed. I was able to call the Delta web help line and get someone to fix the problem. They actually gave us FF seats to accomodate us.
