Seasoned Veterans Advice Please!!!!!!

Hi everyone, I am looking into our first trip to universal. The kids are 7&9. We are driving from Illinois the last week in May. Can anyone give me tips on booking this trip. We are looking into staying at the RPR. Is it cheaper to do a package or purchase everything separately? Any advice from you seasoned veterans is greatly appreciated.

I've always found booking seperately cheaper, BUT that's more than likely because I have annual pass discount(s) and florida resident rate(s) to rely on. I would say check hotel prices, ticket prices (depending on what your exactly looking into) seperate, then in a package deal on the Universal site and see what the prices suggest.

thanks!!! for 6 nights at the RPR and 7 days worth of tickets for both parks I was quoted 1532.04 by a travel agent as well as one of Universal's agents. I don't know if this seems high or not?? If I do everything separately on Universal's website it is more money. I'm just trying to find all of the insiders tips and info to get the best deal!! thanks

I always use the website www.loewshotels.com and use the codes AAA and APH (annual) pass to see what rates I can get. Sometimes it works out really well to buy one annual pass and get the discounts. Sometimes AAA is cheaper!

You can get a room for $149 with annual pass and $183 with AAA for dates May 24- May 30 according to the website. One annual pass would cost $179. Then you would still have to buy one adult ticket (that should get you one free for one child) and then buy one more child's ticket. That is an extra $99 each. These tickets are good for 5 days.

In total $149x6 + $179 + $99x2 = $1280 ish plus tax.

With the annual pass you get 20% off food and merchandise. Kids don't eat free under this plan and they probably do in the plan you were quoted but you can always buy that plan extra for $9/day.

I had booked RPR for 1st week in June for 184.00 a night, then I got an AP and the rate went down to 129.00 a night. It was well worth the extra 80.00 for the AP. (standard room rate)
So you might want to call and checkmon the AP rate for your stay!

if you do book with the universal package, you do NOT get the special promo on the ticket deals going on now. buy one adult 2 park 2 day +3 bonus days and one kid pass free.......

for $99 per adult you get 5 days of 2 parks and the same FREE ticket for the kid.

i always figure out both ways when i book.

what makes it cheaper this year is the discounted pass for the parks.

and, use AAA for room rate.

i pay $54 a year for chgo area AAA.
i save $46 per night on my hotel using that aaa discount.
right there the price for aaa is covered.

also, 10% discount in the parks and city walk on food and merch when you show your aaa card

I know there are other perks that go along with that card, but it is $179 and now I still have to purchase another adult ticket and another kids. Just wondering if the other perks are worth the purchase of the AP? Anyone have any thoughts on HR versus RPH?

I like both hotels. HRH is closer to Universal and RPH is closer to IOA.
