We've cruised before and have been on deck 5/6 and 8. We have a 7 day booked in Sept and we are in Cat9 on deck1. How is the motion on deck1? Are we going to suffer from sea sickness?

It shouldn't be bad...think of the ship as the opposite of a pendulum. The lower part stays steady while the upper part "swings." But even the upper decks are not bad unless the sea is very rough. I definitely do notice more motion forward than aft when it's wavy. Once I was in the spa (deck 9 forward) getting a massage on a rough seas day, and that's the only time I've ever felt seasick in 38 cruises!

We did not notice much movement of the ship. The ship has stbilizers that limit the amount of movement that is felt. After a day or so, you do not notice much.

The only time that we noticed anything was when the ship had to stop in the middle of the ocean (Western Magic 7 day Cruise) to assist some refugees from Cuba on a small little raft...yes true story, right at the second dinner session. It then had to make up time, so was traveling at a higher than normal rate than at any other time of the cruise. That was really the only time that we "felt" the ship moving through the water.

Only felt a lot of motion on Deck 1 on Thursday night coming from St. Thomas to CC. I can only imagine the motion that must have been felt on the lower decks. I did sometimes have trouble looking out the port holes while we were moving very fast. I had to look out at the horizon and not at the water. I also had this trouble on Deck 3 looking out the big portholes. But in general you should feel less motion the lower you go on the ship.

Does anyone know if they use the stabilizers all the time or just when the seas are rough.
