My peditrician suggested childrens dramamine for the cruise. Has anyone had any experience with this? Is there another medication that you have found that works better? My two daughters are 12 and 14.
Thank you for taking the time to respond :cloud9:

My 2 kids (7 and 5) take this for carsickness- any ride over 30 minutes *sigh*. We've never had problems w/ drowsiness or other side effects. I gave it to both right before our cruises sailed but they seemed to tolerate the ship better than a car.

HTH!

I've heard that Benedryl works for kids (maybe younger than yours). Your 14yo should be able to tolerate "adult" medicines (in lower dosage if needed 1/2 pill instead of a whole one or 1 pill instead of two).

 Disneyfan3...

I have 2 kids: ages 13 & 15. They do really great with Bonine. It's a small chewable pill...and even cherry flavored :goodvibes

We give it to them while we're in the port and they don't have any side effects at all. They only take it on the first day, after that they are fine.

My pediatrician recommended Benadryl for my little ones (3 and 4 at the time) because traditional seasickness medications tend to act unpredictably in small children. We never had to use it, even with my car-sickness prone little one.

I would think that Bonnine or Drammamine would be o.k. for your older children. There are a lot of more "natural" alternatives as well - like ginger and green apples.

Hope you don't need it!

Thanks for taking the time! I appreciate all of your suggestions. Maybe we will try out the bonine. :grouphug:

You might want to check out Sea-Bands. They are those small bracelets that go on your wrists. Get them before you go on the cruise. They are much more expensive on the ship. We had 14 -18 ft seas our first night out on the Wonder. Though you are suppose to put them on before you feel sick - I bought them on board for my 5 year old. Within 20 minutes he was feeling much better and was able to eat dinner. They took longer to work on my husband. Some people swear by them. It is an alternative if you don't want to use medication. The seas were calm after that first night but I had him wear them the rest of the cruise just in case and he was fine.

our DSs were 2 & 4 at the time. our pediatrician recommended benedryl, and green apples! yes, green apples!! they really worked for us! i was a bit queasy, and our DS2 were feeling "something" the first night. had green apples, and we were fine! and we're having green apples again, should the feelings come to us again. they'll be 6 & 3 this time! wouldn't hurt to try them, after all, they're just apples. :flower:

Disneyfan3-

This was one of my biggest concerns before our cruise, especially regarding my DS9 who has gotten carsick many times in the past.

But the worry was all for nothing- both of my children were fine the entire cruise even with a rougher than average last night sailing in a storm from Castaway Cay home.

Even our friends' daughter who is known to get very sick frequently on boats and in cars experienced just a little sea sickness on the last night in the storm.

So don't worry- take the Dramamine as a precaution but chances are you won't even need it. Children are very adaptable and resilient.

Have fun on your cruise! :flower:

Our pharmacist said young children (under teen) can not take bonine.

Our Pediatrician said my DS7 and DS3 could take Bonine, just 1/2 for the 7 yo and 1/4 for the 3 yo. :teeth:

We have taken ourselves and given to our children an antihistamine (Benedryl or any brand) and have no problems. The antihistamine helps moderate the inner ear, which is the part of your body that tells the rest of your body that you are sea sick. My DH has IBS and was advised not to take motion sickness meds because they most likely would irritate his stomach (yes, I know motion sickness meds are suppose to calm the stomach!). But, to be honest, we have had to only take it once. Our cruise experiences have been very smooth sailing.
