i have been seariching for an answer for some time and have previously posted on this site asking if anyone knew iff you can if needed pay the on board doctor for a anti sickness injection/shot when all else fails but no one had the answer and in england we cant buy bonine or get prescribed the patch so since i have cruised on the med before and been sick vomiting for 9 hrs wanting to die i was so bad and needing a shot which was a miricle for me i was anxious before contemplating a disney cruise to know this shot would be available to me and because of not being able to take bonine before arriving due to it not being available in uk is there an english name for the same drug anyhow i wrote to the disney cruise line reservations at disneycruise.com and they have investigated and just replied that after first trying meclazine 25mg that they give out to guests if it doesnt work, you go to the medical facility and pay $24 for the injection plus the cost of the medication and the additional cost to see the physician well it would be worth every penny just to feel well again this has made me feel like i can now contemplate a disney cruise what id like to know is there anyone out there who has actually had this injection on the disney cruise ships and also is their a bonine equivelent in uk thanks

When you do arrive in Orlando? Would you have time to stop at a local drug store to pick up some Bonine (Meclazine). They might even have it at the airport. You can take it a few hours before you cruise and it will still be effective.

I don't know what the equivalent medicine would be in the UK, but our son has had to go get the shot on two of our DCL cruises. Once on an Eastern when we passed near a huge storm and had 25 foot seas and the second time on the EB repo in 2005 when we had to go through part of Hurricane Hilary and had very rough seas. So yes, the shot is definitely available, and I think the total cost was around $100 each time. However, as sick as he was, it was worth every penny, and then some.

Referencing a UK website, I found listings for meclizine (the name of the drug in both Bonine and Non-sleepy Dramamine) as well as these registered names: Antivert, Bonikraft, and Medivert.

One would think that the drugstores on an island would be stocked with many variations of motion sickness medicines.:confused3

Hi,
just to let you know you can get the patch in the U.K on perscription.
its called scopaderm or something like that.
do be careful and try it out beforehand as some people have side effects that are unpleasant.

Fear Not!

Yes, they give out free pills on the ship! But to your real question...

Yes, I had to get shots, but that was on Carnival. I had never had seasickness and had no medicine. I was so bad they had to give me TWO DOUBLE SHOTS on my visit to the medical facility. You are right; it was completely worth it!

That cruise swore me off cruising for 10 years! My friend wanted to cruise and I agreed the only way I would try was with Disney. I got both Dramamine & Bonine this time & am happy to say I've never visited the Disney Doc!

Disney is fantastic and they will definitely get you what you need!

Have you spoke with your doctor in the UK about this???? It would be unusual that such a common medication would not be available to you through a prescription through your doctor.

Also what about speaking to your local chemist???? They would tell you what your pharmacy stocks and has on hand for you to purchase otc and/or for your doctor to prescribe.

Of course the shot is an option but at that point you're most likely quite ill. Best to see what is available to you in the UK and bring it with you so that you can prevent the motion sickness.

thankyou all so much for confirming to me that they do these injections on the disney cruise ships it means so much to me it means i can face a cruise on these ships i am a great fan of mickey mouse and am trying to pluck up the courage to go on another cruise after years of being frightened by my last 2 cruises in the med and being so ill vomiting till i wanted to die then getting better within hours of the injection i recieved i was almost giving up trying to find out if disney could do them on request and also i never thought but thanks yes i maybe could try to buy the bonine when i get to orlando before the cruise although we will be staying at por and so will not be near any drugstores

Bonine (Meclozine) is available to buy as 'Sea Legs' in most chemists in the UK. i think I paid about &2.60 for 8 tablets so its pretty expensive and probably cheaper in Walmart when you get there.

The Scopladerm patch is known as a Hyoscine patch over here and I think it depends on your GP if he wants to prescibe it. You have to beware of side effects though.

You can buy Hyoscine as 'joy rides' or 'Kwells'
