It's our first cruise and I am concerned about getting seasick. I decided to buy the electronic bracelets that you wear like watches that emit a small electrical impulse. Has anyone used these with any success?

Thanks,

Mrs. G

I used the 'sea bands' that work on the pressure point. (no electrical shock) and they were the best. I have been on 11 cruises and would always get sick the one full day at sea, but not with the sea bands. The worked on me with 15 min of putting them on. No drowsiness like I would get when I took Bonine.

I haven't heard of the electric ones! Do you have more info? I would love to hear about them!

Seabands/pressure point bands help a little, but they did not prevent me from feeling sick on the way to & from Bermuda (across the atlantic from NYC). It was only in certain parts of the ship & once we moved I was fine. Luckily our cabin was midship!

Bonine never makes me sleepy, but I was pregnant at the time & couldn't take it.

do you know if they sell sea bands on board?..
i'm worried i won't have time to find them in orlando....
it's my only hope, as i can't take bonine or any of the others because of drug interaction dangers (i've learned the hard way....ending up in the emergency room and then hospitalized is not my idea of a vacation)....

I bought the electronic bracelets. I'm not really sure the bracelets worked for me very well...altho I have read others who say they work fine.

There were three problems for me. First, when it got hot and I would sweat, I got itchy/rashy under the band. It was definitely uncomfortable.

Second, very unattractive. Big, clunky thing. So if you are going to formal night, or wearing anything nice, it looks awful.

Which leads to my third problem. The minute you take it off, it stops working. So if you don't want to wear it at times, you stand a chance of getting sick during that period.

That being said, if I couldn't take bonine, and it was the band or getting seasick? The band definitely...ugly, itchy or not.

Oh, maybe 4. I got a 1.5 inch white stripe on my wrist with the rest of me tan! LOL Had to keep explaining.

Gillian,

The electronic wrist band is called Relief Band. You can read all about it at reliefband.com They are expensive- about $99 each (the disposables are much cheaper) and they adjust from level 1 to level 5 based upon need. They are offered on many sites. Safeathome.com had the best offer. Hope this helps.

i got a relief band from drugstore.com $79 (with replaceable battery). i think it worked great--i get seasick in the bath tub and with 20 ft waves during hurricane michelle i was fine with relief band. now i used it at the amusement parks so i can ride without feeling sick. well worth the investment if you don't want to drug yourself

I started to get sick the last day of the cruise--very rough weather, I put on the sea bands and it was gone!!! (maybe it was all in my head, but my stomach sure felt better)

KAR3600 - I agree...I felt fine most of the time. A few times I felt queasy so I put them on and I felt better. But then again is that in your head?? :)

Also it seemed that my queasiness was usually when I hadn't eaten. You'd think that's hard to do on a cruise but it usually hit me and hour or two or three before dinner. Chicken fingers and fries help too!
