sears optical, anyone try them?

Time for new glasses & frames. Now without insurance shopping for both price & quality. Anyone ever give Sears a try? Of any other recommendations or places to avoid.

I have had two pairs of glasses from Sears- one I loved, one I hated. They cut the lenses well, it was just not liking the frame in the end. The frames held up fine though. I would buy there again.

If you have a Costco nearby, I read they were rated tops for eyeglasses, Sears not so much.

I have used them off and on.. I don't really like them, but they are in my insurance plan. Even with my insurance, which most say is good, I still end up paying around 150.00 to 200 for glasses. On my last trip there, I bought a "sale" pair, that was 100.00, then got my prescription. I have since ordered glasses from Zenni Optical and Coastal Contacts, and both of these have been wonderful!

Exam, lens and frames, $98.

Price depends on how fancy you want the frames, of course.

I am very pleased, and the doctor was great.

You'd have to do your research on the doctor available though, I'm sure as with any service, it varies.

We are shopping around for glasses for my daughter we have different insurance this year so we needed to find a in network optical.
One place (Shopko) I priced out glasses my after insurance cost was going to be just under $300 and that was a basic plastic. Then we went over to Sam's Club our out of pocket for complete glasses with poly lense with transitions and anti glare will be $45.

Get a price at a couple places is my recommendation.

Sears will allow you to return your glasses and chose a new pair if you are unhappy with them. I got a pair that I thought would be fine but they ended up being too big and sat on my cheek. They were very kind not to say it was too puffy a cheek and took them back and allowed me to pick a new frame. I really like that they do that!

DH has gotten his glasses at Walmart and a chain place called For Eyes (not sure if that's just local) and has been happy with the price and quality of both.

Just a heads up- my family has found that the anti glare coating makes the glasses get dirty VERY quickly.

My glasses are always dirty and my mom was always on my case about it (I could clean them 2x a day and they would still look filthy). She got anti glare on her new ones and now has the same problem.

The anti-glare or anti-reflective coatings only appear to be dirtier. Since there is no reflection there, you just see all of those specks or fingerprints more clearly. The newest types of anti-reflective coatings are much better and easier to clean.

We also just used the vision center at Walmart. My DD's first pair last year cost us $170 and came with NO return policy or coverage for breaking, scratching, etc. This was at LensCrafters (we needed the glasses that day as we were leaving the next day for WDW).

At Walmart last week we got her 2 pair of really cute kids glasses for $120 total (one pair was only $37, the other pair was more expensive), and both pair come with a one year guarantee. The staff was wonderful and I would recommend them to anyone and everyone who needs to new glasses.

I 2nd Zenni Optical. I got my glasses, normally 300-400 bucks for 45 shipped. Including featherweight lense (polycarbonite or somethinglike that)

Have heard about sears optical, but I never give it a try. I don’t have insurance, so their price is too high for me. I bought 2 pair of $7 glasses from Zennioptical.com. They are comfortable, cute, SUPER cheap and actually pretty sturdy. Their helpful and respectful customer service impressed me most, so I think Zenni is a good choice for me.

I've been going to Sears for about 6 years now, and they have been great. I second the comment about returning the glasses if you're unhappy; I returned a pair and they were awesome about it, no questions asked. Prices, IMHO, are good, too. I was used to paying 400.00+ for my glasses, and now get out around 200.00 or less.

I have also ordered from Zenni (for sunglasses) and was really pleased with them as a place to get a backup or throwaway pair. For everyday wear, I like to have a local place to go to, but for backups, they were great.

I used 39dollarglasses.com They were great. Now I was getting them for kids glasses, but the service and quality were fine. I even had to use the 1 year warranty when my DD broke hers. They sent me new ones with no questions asked. Loved them!

Two years ago I bought my daughter a pair of glasses at Sears, and they've been great for her. Cute frames, and she's satisified with the lenses. The price was certainly right: It's been a while, but they were less than $100.

She was so satisfied that I went to Sears when I needed glasses again. My more complicated bifocal lenses were considerably more expensive (I want to say $250, but it's been a while), and they explained that my daughter'd got such a great deal because she was under 16 -- they always have that deal for kids. I'm not so satisfied with my Sears glasses. The coating is starting to be weird -- it's not coming off, but there are some ever-so-slight "spots", which I notice occasionally. I've been wearing glasses since I was 14, and I've never had anything like this on any other pair.

All in all, I probably will not return to Sears.

I've ordered from Zenni too. I ordered a pair of prescription sunglasses, and I was very, very dissatisifed. The legs of the frames were too short, and they hurt my ears. The lenses were great, but I couldn't bear to wear them for more than a few minutes at a time. Even at $10 or so, it was a total waste.
