I know there are many out there, but I thought I saw a threat possibly here (though I can't find it) or somewhere else. Or maybe I dreamed it (I did have a weird dream last night)

Anyway,,, I thought it was a Microsoft program that was free if you had a registered version of XP. I checked the Microsoft sight and nothing looked familar. There were also a few other software recommendations as well, 1 with a trial version then you had to buy, another had about a $30 cost. I was looking to download something to the laptop for the plane ride home next week back from WDW.

Anyone have any clue as to what I might be discribing? Maybe it was another type of software, but when I look back at the posts (here and another site I frequent) nothing looks familar.

Any help? Maybe?? :confused3

I think that the free Microsoft program that you're talking about is one of their Powertoys. Here's the description from their site:
HTML Slide Show Wizard

This wizard helps you create an HTML slide show of your digital pictures, ready to place on your Web site.

I've never used it, though, so I can't tell you much more about it. :)

So I'm sitting here all bored and not doing anything (doesn't say much for me, as it's a Saturday evening) and I figured I'd take a look at the Powertoy referenced above... I threw together a quick HTML slideshow which I uploaded to my site and you can view here.

I then took another look at the Microsoft Powertoys site and realized that they've got another slideshow generator, which is perhaps the one that you were talking about. Here's the description:

CD Slide Show Generator

With this PowerToy you can view images burned to a CD as a slide show. The Generator works downlevel on Windows 9x machines as well.

I haven't used that program, but am assuming that it will create a slideshow similar to the HTML slideshow, but one that you'd burn to a CD and would perhaps autoplay when inserted into a CD-Rom drive.

Have fun :)

You really don't give much info as to what you need one for but if you're looking for one for a web site then the one I would recommed is Coppermine . 100% free and easy to use

I made one using Windows Movie Maker. Its a Microsoft product and I'm pretty sure its free.

Thank you everyone for the replies. The PhotoStory might have been the one, that looks somewhat familar. I'll try it out and see how things turn out.

Thanks again.

One of the more commonly used slideshow programs used by "the pros" is Proshow by Photodex Corporation. It's a wonderful program, and can be as simple or as intricate as you wish to make it. One of the nicest features is its ability to synch music and images (or series of images). Also offers motion features as well as multitudes of transitions, and the ability to post your shows to a site and direct viewers to that site.

I'd been struggling in Powerpoint, and truly had stretched its capabilities to their limits before finally breaking down and researching what else was out there. I've been thrilled, and my audience reaction has been overwhelmingly positive.

I researched over half a dozen different slide show programs and decided on ProShow for it's features and ease of use. It is an easy yet very powerful program for creating high quality slide shows.

For less $$$ some of the other programs are good but more limited, for more $$$ you can get into something like Vegas, which is professional level (and price).

The shows on this website were done with ProShow. Unfortunately the web-size videos do not give the same quality as the full size shows.

Another option if you have XP and don't want to fuss too much is to use the built in 'My Slideshow' screensaver. Just put all the photos you want into one folder and point to it in the screen saver options. You can choose a few different settings and you're done. It's not sophisticated but it works well and is fast and free.
