Search Function

Are there any forums where the search function is working? If it's going to be permanently disabled, can it be removed as an option from the DIS boards home page?

When it is not working, it does not work on any of the forums. Best bet is to get on before 6 AM or after 11 PM, less loads then. It does usually work in the very late night or very early morning.

Often you can refresh your search a few times and it will go through. Other times I've had it work, but I would need to redo it (ie have to many hits and to to narrow down the search) and it wouldn't be working. It just depends on the traffic on the server I believe. something has to go when it is too busy and search was the easiest/less inconvient thing that could go.

I'll have to try the refresh thing to see if that works for me. One day I'll get a search to work!

<font color=navy>The search function is set up so that when the DIS reaches a certain number of users at the same time, search is automatically disabled. This is because when we reach that load, plus any number of people using search, the board slows down considerably, or we would get that dreaded message "Server too Busy, Try Again." Administration decided to set an automatic diable so that users would be able to continue to post. When the number of users dip, search works.


I normally use it early in the morning/late at night, like Dan, but sometimes I need to use it during the day, and then I'll just keep hitting that button until it goes through.

Thanks MJ! I also didn't think to visit the Tech board to see if there was info about this before starting a thread.

I'd much rather see Search go down instead of not being able to access the messages!
