I am planning my family's first trip to SW in July. I came across this tour on the SW website and am intrigued by the opportunities provided by this tour. Has anyone done this? Or even any of the other tours available? For a family of 4, these tours add $160-$300 to the day on top of the park admission. Thanks for any infor/advice!

We just did the VIP tour at SeaWorld on Jan 14. Typically there are 12 persons to a group but we were the only ones booked so we had a tour guide all to ourselves for the whole day. The tour we did is a little different b/c it includes front of the line access to the 3 big rides (all very scary!), reserved seating with the best seats for the top 3 shows, vouchers for your lunch, and the feeding of dolphins, sea lions, sting rays & seals.

We arrived at 9am. Checked in, received our VIP pass lanyards and didn't need to report back till 11. We stopped and had photos done with Shamu and a few other back drops. More on that a little later.

Filling in the time we went to the penguin pavilion and Shamu's harbor to do the kiddie rides (weren't included in our tour). The kids had the whole section to themselves and rode many of the rides over and over. At 11 we met our tour guide and began our journey. She already had our plan for the day and there was little time to stray from that. We first fed the sting rays which was a ton of fun, but you get super wet so make sure to bring ponchos. We each got a little dish of maybe 5-8 fish to feed them, basically exactly the same as everyone else. We rode the 3 rides by going through the exit and getting on immediately, no wait time. We watched the 3shows (shamu, dolphins (amazing!) and Clyde and Seymore). The dolphin feeding was great too, although we easily could of used more fish as the stupid seagulls swoop down and steal them. There are photographers there, like photopass photographers in Disney that snap away while you do the feedings. You get pieces of papers with a code on them that you can turn in at the entrance to view them if you want to purchase. The price of a cd with all your pictures is $39.99. We bought the cd with our pictures and were surprised to find a whole lot of other nice Seaworld photos of the Dolphins, Shamu, seals and sealions.

The lunch time was scheduled a little too late for my kids and they did start to get a little grumpy. The vouchers, which could be used at any of the restaurants, included 1 main entry, 2 sides and a drink. This was alot of food for our family of 4. The 2 sides included fruit bowl, salad, desserts, pickles, and many other things I can't quite remember. We had ALOT of food and ended up making selections we could take with us for the kids to munch on during the rest of the day. My DH chose his lunch from 1 place and we chose another. He then came over with his food and we ate at the restaurant we were ordering from. The tour guide left for her lunch and then came back at a determined time.

Given the opportunity I'm pretty sure we would of picked the family tour cause the 7 hour one was a bit long for our children. It was a very quiet evening as we were all whipped and it was a cooler day.

If there is anything specific you'd like to know, let me know.

WOW!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you so much for your detailed report on the VIP tour!! Sounds like you had an amazing time. Makes me want to do the family fun tour even more. I just showed the details to DH and he said "book it!". I like that it allows us to interact with dolphins, penguins and sea lions! When I asked my girls if they would prefer to interact with dolphins, penguins or sea lions (because they have those individual tours too), one said dolphins, and the other one said penguins!! How do I choose?:rotfl2: With the family fun, you apparently get all three. I like the front of the line access for the kiddie rides too...I would imagine in July, the lines will be busy. We are not big coaster fans, so not getting the ride pass for those big rides is fine by us!

May I ask you how did you book your tour? Through the SW website? When you book, do you get your choice of time? One last, question, when did you book your tour? I wonder if I need to book well in advance or not...I highly doubt we would be as lucky as you to get the tour all to ourselves in July. Thanks so much again for your help. I am totally excited now for our trip!

I feel your excitement .... I too was very excited when making plans. It was a hard decision for us and b/c we didn't know the park we thought it would be the best decision to do the tour. We booked our tour directly through the website and entered our cc information. I changed the date 3 times over the course of the planning. I called in to make the changes. Our only available time was 11 b/c it was 7 hours and the park was open from 9-6. How old are your children?

Maybe someone else will chime in here regarding the time of season you'll be visiting to ensure you are on the right track. After being there and going through the experience I would offer this:

We arrived right at opening (similar to RD). When you first enter, meet and greet for Shamu is on a dock ... very little wait to have your picture with him and there is a photographer there to take your photo (with your camera and his). EVERYONE goes to the big rides on the left side of the park so we basically explored the right side of the park without running into anyone after we went through the penguin exhibit. We were able to ride all the rides in Happy Harbor without waiting in line. There was literally no one there and we at first thought it wasn't even open. The kids rode the Shamu coaster 3 times in a row.

We saw Beleive first and then the Dolphin show. We all enjoyed the "Dolphin show" far more than "Believe". After we told our tour guide our preference she said the Dolphin show is their #1 show. It is superior to "Believe" and I would make that a priority. I would have also preferred to see the Pets Ahoy show vs Believe (kids are 7 & 4) but there was no time for it cause we went to Clyde and Seymore, which is also a fantastic show! Just don't be late cause there is a mime that makes fun of almost anyone who walks through the gate. :rotfl2:

The cost for the fish was 5/$20 after rereading I better clarify 5 trays with 5-8 fish in each for $20 to feed the Sealions. When we fed them we stood along a railing and threw them down. As I mentioned, most of the fish went to the birds that scoop them up long before they reach the sea lions. After our tour guide noticed us being frustrated she did move us to a roped off area but that didn't help. We did celebrate when a sealion did finally get one. The birds FLOCK to the fish and you have to shoo them away. We didn't get to interact with the sealions (from the description that your tour is I would think it is also a "feed only)".

When we fed the dolphins we each got one dish of food and were escorted in the back exit with a group of about 30 other people who did wait in line. This was a very exciting experience and although it is very busy, it is worth it. As long as you're feeding them, they'll stay, but again the birds stole fish constantly from our dishes. I imagine the fish price is the same.

The one thing we did do that was alot of fun was the sting ray feed. Besides getting very wet (they flap their bodies agaisnt the side of the pool) the kids loved it. Bring rain smocks. You actually hold the fish in an up right position between your pointer finger and middle finger and submerge your arm (between your hand and elbow) under the water. Their mouths are below them so they come up over top of your hand and suck it up like a vaccum. It is very cool. There are sinks and soap to wash afterwards at all stations that relate to feeding. For the dolphin feeding we just went into the nearby bathroom cause the line was very long at the outdoor sink.

Our children are not thrill seekers (quite the opposite) and we did the Journey to Atlantis ride. The kids loved it and wanted to do it again. The drop is pretty fun, but again wear rain smocks. We didn't get really wet, but we're told by our guide to sit in the 3rd and 4th row. If you choose to do it, balance out the weight by having your DH sit on the opposite side of you. It made a difference the second time. They do offer a photo $19.99, which is seperate cost from the cd I mentioned previously.

My DH ate @ the Spice Mill and we ate @ Seafire. Both were very good with lots and lots of options.

If you have any other questions please ask.

I would have also preferred to see the Pets Ahoy show vs Believe (kids are 7 & 4) but there was no time for it cause we went to Clyde and Seymore, which is also a fantastic show!

My DD is 5 and we wanted to do the Family Fun tour but it is all booked for the dates we want to go. How did your 4 year old handle the VIP tour? Was it interesting for him/her?

We had the kids in bed early the night before since we knew there would not be an afternoon break. Both kids managed very well, with the exception of their lunch time being too late (1:30?) Be prepared for that and pack a few snacks. The tour guides also plan accordingly so that there isn't much back and forth in the park. Our little guy rode in the stroller most of the time, which worked out very well.

Both kids LOVED the tour and got really attached to our guide. The only thing that wasn't great was them not being able to do the big kid rides, nor would I want them too! The tour guide did stay with them while we rode Manta ... we all rode the Atlantis together.

I was at SW yesterday and they are not doing the family fun tour at this time. (off season). The guest services person said it will probably be back during in the spring and summer. and MAY be running for school vacation week. She said they are still testing it.

Not really sure what all that means - but my impression was that it may or may not be something they keep on the list of tours. It actually wasn't even on the printed tour material they provided.

I certainly hope that they do not discontinue this tour and it is still available in July! It seems to offer everything my family would like to do. I see it as available for the date I want in July. I am wondering if I should book now....I have the option to cancel at any time up to the date of the tour correct?

Thanks again Buckbart for your detailed tour. I was hoping the feeding experience was a private one and by your description, it seems like tour guests are intermingled with non tour people during the feeding times. Does it get crowded? Was it OK feeding the dolphins with so many other people? Were there a lot of dolphins that were happy to go to anyone waving a fish?? Or was there a wait for one to come to you?

My girls are 7 and 9 and are really excited at the prospect of feeding the animals. We look forward to this! The fast pass to rides in Happy Harbor will be great because they will probably refuse to go on any of the other rides in the park! The shows sound great, thanks for the reviews and opinions on the shows!

thanks again!

I just booked a VIP Tour for February. This will make life much easier as we've never been there before. :)

I also just booked the Family Fun tour for July this morning!!!! I am totally excited too as it is our family's first time to Sea World. After hearing how well the VIP tour ran, I knew the best way to see Sea World is to do a tour. I called Sea World to totally confirm that I can cancel my booking up to 24 hours before the tour, so I have no issues booking and paying so far in advance. Apparently this tour starts at 10:00 (includes a light lunch half way through tour, hopefully at noon...my girls are such scheduled eaters!! :lmao:) to allow us plenty of time to enjoy the rest of the park after the tour. I also booked a Cabana for us at Aquatica! :cool1::cool1:

I just booked the Family Fun tour in April :cool1: My kids loved the option of actually being able to feed/pet the dolphins, sea lions & penguins. My 1st grader is excited to journal about his experience for school.

Does anyone know if the food/fish that we feed to the dolphins/sealions is an additional cost? Just want to be prepared with cash :thumbsup2

On a side note, if anyone does a Family Fun tour in the next month or so please give us your review ;)

The Family Fun Tour wasn't available for February :( but I think the VIP tour will be nice.

The fish were included with the price of our tour. It is limited to one tray per person (5-8 fish each) for each feeding area. Of course the exception was the people who we saw doing the Sea Lion Tour (after the Clyde & Seamore show), got to feed pails (anything that was left over from the shows), not trays of food to the Sea Lions.

With our tour we did not touch any of the animals except for the dolphins. For the dolphin feeding we were with about 25 others who stood in line, but somewhat segregated from them to one side. You go through the back gate, no waiting. No worries about getting time with them. There are plenty of dolphins and they will go to anyone who has food. We tried to feed one fish at a time and had them the entire time beside us. Trick is to pet, hug, rub first then feed the fish. This keeps them around longer. We had about 10 mins at each feeding station, 15 max and then the next group is called in.

The Sea lion and sting ray feeding is open to all ... you just gather around the pool to feed the stingrays (or watch) and the sea lions are in an enclosed area and you are on a balcony surrounding them and throw the fish down to them (I mean, for the birds )

That's great you are booked for the family fun tour!! I hope you come back after your trip to write a complete review!! It sounds so exciting!

Buckbart: thanks for the feeding tips!! It doesn't sound so bad and you also get enough interaction with the dolphins!

Very excited about this thread. We booked the VIP tour for April. It was the compromise since Discovery Cove was not in the budget after booking onsite at Universal. My girls are teens.

A few questions

Did you bring your own ponchos?
Were you in the splash zone at the shows?
Can you buy more fish for feeding?

Thanks much:goodvibes Hope everyone has a wonderful experience.

We forgot our ponchos in the car, but really could of used them, especially when feeding the stingrays. You have to lean over the edge and they splash alot. Make sure to bring them ... and wear short sleeves for sure. The ponchos would of been good on the Atlantis too!

The best seats for any of the shows are just above the splash zone in the center. They are roped off with a VIP notice on the back of the seating. You will never have to worry about arriving late and getting a bad seat. She did ask us if we wanted to sit in the splash zone ... believe me, those people were bathing suit soaked!

We weren't given the chance to buy more food, but I'm sure they would consider it if you were willing to pay for it. There is a limited amount of time allotted for each feeding. We rationed the fish by letting our children feed most of them and us only feeding a few.

Going to dIscovery Cove for a day so will see dolphines, sting rays, etc. Free Sea World passes included. DD12 likes coaster but nothing upside down. NEVER been to sea world is a tour worth it for us?
