Sea World Career Camp Questions

Hi,

I'm planning on sending my daughter to the Sea World Camp this summer. I've been reading previous threads and wishing someone out there can point me in the right direction for questions. Is there a resource where I can see what kind of activities will be planned for the week long camp? also, I am a bit concern on sending her by herself. We live in far West Texas and I have the option of taking some time off from work and spending time in Florida while she stays at the camp or if anyone can put my mind at ease, sending her by herself. My concerns are along who will be there to meet her and make her comfortable. She is currently a 7th grader.

I would love to hear responses to this question as well. My daughter is not going this summer as she is only in 5th grade but I would like to send her to this camp in another 2 years or so. Can't find much information about it online.

Hi Ladies,

I sent my daughter to the Seaworld Day Camp, not the sleep over camp, twice, third grade and 5th grade. She loved it.

You are the one who drives your child to camp, you walk them in, and you pick them up. They meet under a giant dome at a side entrance for Seaworld. Each group has a table set up, and the camper receives their water bottle, shirt, etc. Each group meets their counselors and receives their team tee shirts, a different color for each grade. You sign in your child and you sign them out. Most camps start at 9am, and end at either 2PM or 3PM. I think there are only 8-10 kids per group, with 2 counselors for each group.

If the child comes late , you walk them in, but there is someone who will walk with them to have them join their group.

If you are going to be late, or live locally and want to keep the child there later, you can pay for after care.

I am from NY, and we have a timeshare in Orlando. I work from home and am able to work while I am away. Instead of having a child sitting around watching TV or bored, having her in Seaworld camp just made sense to me. I can work, get alot done and she is having a great time at the best marine park in the US! WE just love Seaworld.

SHe had a great time! SHe met kids there, and had a ball! No reason to be concerned. You will be able to meet her counselors and see the kids in her group, and I am sure you will feel your child is safe. I felt she was safe. THe first day I asked her many questions and the kids are always watched and stay together. THey sometimes go behind the scenes and watch the animals get fed or learn about many different animals each day.

She is now going into 8th grade, and wants to go to camp this year, as its her last summer to go. THe day is structured, they have scheduled lunch, scheduled snack, and they do arts and crafts to get out of the heat a bit during the day. Mostly they are learning about the marine animals.

Up-close animal encounters
Fun activities and take-home crafts
Secure camper pick-up and drop-off system

After camp care is available from 3 to 5 pm for $79 per camper per week. Call 1-800-406-2244 to add after camp care to your reservation or to ask any questions about the program you may have.

We are Annual Passholders and get a discount on the camps. I think we save about $30 per week.

That sounds like what happens for the Day Camps. I think this person is asking about the Resident camps; where kids from all over the country fly in on a Saturday and fly out on a Saturday and stay with the SeaWorld camp for the whole week. They don't get checked in and out each day.

For those flying in SeaWorld has to work with whatever airline you choose to send your child on. Sometimes, the airlines will require you to have someone there to pick your child up at the gate; other airlines don't. Regardless; as far as I know they have a great system of picking kids up at the airport and getting them to SeaWorld safely. I can't imagine how hard it'd be to let your baby fly away and be gone for a week; but most teenagers love the experience. I don't think it's one you'd regret, and I don't think there should be any big worries about sending them on their own.

yes, Chiamarie you are correct. I checked the seaworld website, career camp is different, I thought LUestrad was talking about wild careers day camp.

The Career Camp is a sleep over camp and they stay in a hotel room.

Chiamarie go to the Seaworld website and see if you can find any additional information or go to a website where people rate these activities, I am sure I am not allowed to mention one here. THe people review the activities and the reviews can give you a better idea of how the program works.

HOW about calling up Seaworld education department directly? I called them when I sent my daughter to day camp. THey are very nice and will answer any of your questions.
