Hi

Just wondering if anyone could recommend some good seasick tablets.

Last time I was on the cruise, first night was really choppy and I did not feel ok. ( couldn't eat or drink anything)

I want to better prepared for our 7 night cruise this year.

Thanks

We like Dramamine - not available over here but you can buy it out in USA.

Many swear by Stugeron, but they will sedate you and you shouldn't drink while using them. I have only been seasick once - in the Bay of Biscay on Oriana which has a strange roll at the best of times - and we cruise every year. I found SeaBands very helpful. Whether they actually do anything or it was just the placebo effect I don't know - but the sickness stopped.

Stugeron are usually recommended by pharmacists

Hi

You could try motillium they are anti sickness tablets. I think you can buy them over the counter 10mg, but not sure if your GP can perscribe any stronger ones. Try speaking to your GP they maybe able to prescribe you some or something similar. Otherwise its like £4.00 for 10 tablets. They are expensive.

.... just to add, I would really recommend trying out recommendations at home - anti-histamines can have different effects on different people e.g. I found that Stugeron gave us nasty side-effects, and so we have tried different tablets to find something suitable.

There are 2 main types of sea-sickness tabs over here :hyoscine (Joyrides) or cinnarizine (Stugeron)- Boots, Tesco and other travel-sickness tabs usually contain either of these.

One of my sons and I suffered from dreadful travel sickness and tried out lots of things until we found Dramamine (dimenhydrinate), and that just suits
us best!

DD has tried Stugeron with pretty good results, but was also prescribed some thing which she could dissolve under her tongue if needed. Sorry, I don't recall the name, but it might be worth a trip to your doctor to ask if he/she can recommed something for you.

Can I reccomend Ginger capsuals that you can buy from boots.

When I went on the cruise, we tried Sea Legs (Melclazine) the first night and were we sorry, we felt so doozy, we felt we were missing out, so the following day we both took Ginger Capsuals that I had taken as back up, they worked so well, that I tried them whilst riding on attractions that normally make me feel queasy, and again they were great.

They are very cheap and made by a company called Hovells I think, plus no nasty side effects.

I second this recommendation. My daughter took Dramimine 2 (meclazine - there are two kinds of dramamine, traditional and dramamine 2) and she was incredibly drousy...it ruined the first day of her cruise. Once she stopped taking it, she was fine.

Ginger is known as a good home remedy for nausea.

JUst to add I used ginger capsules when I didn't fancy the side effects of Stugeron and they worked for me, also flat lemonade or ginger beer are other suggestions

We`ve used Stugeron, however they made us very tired. We could`nt keep our eyes open at dinner on the first night! Never got seasick though.

my kids wear bands & they seem to work fine.

Another for the bands - I have used them and I suffer terrible with motion sickness = even on planes and the bands help greatly. Maybe try a combination of bands and tablets? :flower:

Just to say thanks for all your suggestions. :goodvibes

I will get some bands for sure and ask Gp about the tablets, ( i take strong painkilers don't want to interfere with them)

Do you just buy the bands @ boots?

Yes you can buy them over the counter - though you might be able to find them on the web cheaper. :flower:

Another vote for Seabands, used them on our last cruise and did not suffer from any problems. Wore them for the first 3 days then only when it got rocky!

I have just returned from a 7 day Disney Cruise and was seasick the whole time.

I had seabands which took the edge off and was given tablets (I did not take them though due to poss pg) at guest services, they were free too.

Even being seasick I throughly enjoyed our cruise and can not wait until we do it again.

.... sorry to interrupt the thread but Kirsty that is a wonderful family photo of you all on the cruise :) !!

Your queasiness certainly doesn't show in the photo :)

Thanks,

My wrists were hidden because I refused to take my seabands off.

We did not manage any evening dining due to me being sea sick and our twin girls being asleep by 5.30pm every night.

But even so it was fantastic and can not wait until we can go again.

Another vote here for Ginger capsules - in fact if you buy 'natural' or homeopathic travel sickness tablets you will find they are mostly ginger and it's much cheaper to buy a bottle of ginger capsules (1 a day variety) from Holland and Barrett. We take them for flying and also on P&O cruises we have done from Southampton (and the Solent and English Channel are very choppy at times).
