Sea Raycers

My family and I would like to rent Sea Raycers/WaterMice when we're at Disney. My teenage daughter & her friend will be along and would also like to drive them. I have read that you only have to be 13 to rent the Water Mice at POR, however, I've read that they are slow and "boring". But I also read somewhere that if you rent the Sea Raycers from the Magic Kingdom resorts, you have to be 16 to drive them. Does anyone have any information and recommendations? I'd really appreciate it. TIA.

They no longer have water mice (at least at the MK resorts), only the new Sea Raycers. My dh who has rented both several times doesn't feel that there is much of a difference between them.

You must be 16 (and a licensed driver, too I believe) to rent them. I'm pretty sure my dh said he had to leave his drivers license at the shack when he rented a boat.

I believe the increased age was due to an accident on one of the lakes by teen's.

At 13, your children can be a passenger, but not a driver.

Actually, any age can be a passenger. We just got back, and my 3 yr old rode with me. Not sure what the age requirement is for driving, as my children are 7 and 3 - knew it wasn't going to be an option. But we did not even have to show our driver's licenses, me or DH. We rented from Fort Wilderness and rode all over the Magic Kingdom area - it was a lot of fun.

My DH did have to go back and get another boat - his was really slow, and he couldn't keep up with me. The second boat was better, but mine was still way faster. He won't admit it, but I think it was partially because the "weight load" in my boat wasn't as much as his boat.
