Hi, we are 2 animal lover adults with no kids and were wondering if we should do the San Diego Zoo or the WAP? We only want to do one day in San Diego and we dont mind the drive to either one.
Thanks for your help!!!
Is this in December? Unless you are going when it's really hot, I would pick WAP. I love WAP and only like the zoo. You'll see more animals at WAP than the zoo. And even though there is alot of walking at WAP, the Zoo has more. The zoo is older and even though they are remodeling some exhibits, I still prefer the more natural setting at WAP. If you are going in Dec., when the weather is cooler, definitely do WAP. Depending on when you go in December, they may have it decorated for the holidays. They even bring in snow. It's pretty cool!
We are members of the S.D. Zoo Org. but go to WAP more than the zoo. If you go to WAP don't forget to check out Lion Camp. Really nice!
IMO, it really depends on what the weather is like. Early September can be REALLY hot (as high as 105 degrees), and the WAP is in one of the hottest areas in San Diego County.
If the weather is mild, stick with the WAP. If it's hot, definitely go to the zoo instead.
Thank you Monkey Monkey, you are such a big help!!! So I guess that in this situation we wont buy our tickets ahead of time so we can wait and see what the weather will be like! Thanks again!

I have an annual pass, so I've never bought individual tickets, but I would think that it would be the same ticket for both parks. The AP is valid for both parks, and they are both run by the San Diego Zoo.
But you could wait until you get to the park to buy admission - it's not like Disneyland where you have to wait in line forever!
I'd choose the Zoo over the WAP...you can see pandas and koalas and lots of other unusual animals that aren't at the WAP. While it's very cool to see animals out on the savanna at the WAP, I think you get a better (closer) view of them at the Zoo.
