SD card question

I'm sooo confused! My MIL & I were talking about a sale she saw for HD SD cards so she checked it out & found out they won't work in her camera (its only 1 year old or so)

BUt I have a SD card that says SD HC 60 HD 4gb card....what the heck does all that mean? I'm guessing its not an HD card since it works on my camera -but i'm just curious

SD cards have to be SDHC at 4Gig or bigger. SDHC is a newer version of SD. All device that can read SDHC can read SD. However, not all SD based devices can support SDHC.

As for the HD, its basically a marketing thing that says it a fast enough card to support HD video recording.

If her camera is only a year old there is probably a firmware update that will allow it to accept SDHC cards - go to the website, search for firmware for that model, download it to your computer, move it to a normal SD card, then follow your camera directions for how to update (usually just stick the SD card in and turn on the camera while holding down a certain button or something similar). Very easy to do.

It sounds to me like you are inferring that your camera will not take SDHC because your camera is the same age as your MIL's. If that is the case, it is not correct to assume that. SDHC has been out for a few years now, but not all cameras support it. Look for a little number inside a circle on your card. It should be a 2, 4, or 6. If you see that, then that is another way to confirm that your card is a SDHC. Also, there are cameras that support SDHC even if they do not say so in the documentation.
