Scuba Divers

Does anyone scuba on the cruises? Can anyone tell me about scuba diving on the Eastern 7 Day? I'm going in October and am wondering if anyone can tell me about the diving.

We did a two tank dive on St. Thomas in 2001. It was a Disney excursion. The first dive was on a reef at about 60 to 70 feet, the second dive was on a sunken barge at about 35 feet.

Everything went well, equipment was good. Very well done.

My son and I dive on every cruise. We always book our dives independent. That gives us great flexibility on what reefs/wrecks we dive. The best place to find information about diving locations I have found to be is www.scubadiving.com. That is a good place to start. If you take your own equipment, be prepared that rising and storing on the ship is not easy.

When cruising with our children 8 & 6, we always use the cruise excursion, just in case there is any emergency while our kids are in the kids club and they need to reach us.

We thought of booking our excursions on our own, but it was not worth it for us.

Also, we had wanted to book one scuba outfit that we had used before, but the company would not let us, as Disney used them, and it would be a conflict.

This happend in Grand Caymen though, on the Western. I believe it was Red Sail.

My wife and I just got back from the 7 day eastern run and did the discover scuba class with Chris Sawyer Diving Center. Nothing but class and friendly service. The have a wide variety of options and were easy to work with and get to. A group of certified divers had done a drift dive in the morning and there was a second dive in the afternoon. We were back in plenty of time. Needless to say we will be looking into getting our certification done now. Might be work sending them an email...

On St. Thomas, you might try contacting the Coki Beach Dive Club. We did an intro scuba dive with them, and I recall reading from one or two other people who were certified and dove with them. They were great: wonderful pre-trip communication, very friendly on-site, reasonable prices...just an all-around good outfit.

My husband is the diver in the family and he dove both in St. Martin and St. Thomas on our last cruise, he loved both but St. Thomas was better in terms of scenery. He just finds it easier to o the dive sponsored by DCL as he does not have to worry about where to go.....

We've done the reef/wreck dive in St. Thomas. Weather sucked, but nice dive. Wreck was kinda' "bland" though. We use "Disney Dives" for the ease of communication as mentioned before. Don't know if it is cheaper or not.

Shoulda' gone diving in the Caymans. They have a nice wreck about 400 yards offshore that looked really cool.

I did dive at Grand Cayman in 2002 and the wreck was awsome!! It was right next to a reef, so we could look at the wreck and then go over to the reef.

We used Disney that time and have not been disappointed so far, I'm sure the more cruises we do, the more likely we will use outside sources.
