Thought I would share some "artwork" that we were greeted with on the table in room 5051:

Lovely.
:sad2:

I stayed in that room about 6 years ago! They should start charging people checking out with damages.

Renters....that was my first thought that came to mind. What a shame.

Of course, it could've been DVC members, but I'd like to think that is not the case.

I don't think it was any more likely to be renters than members??!!:confused3...I don't know why you would think that?

Irresponsible parents are irresponsible parents..whether they are renters or members!

It shouldn't,t have happened in the first place, but where's mousekeeping? It should have been rectified before new guests arrived!

First off, to even think it was "renters" is just so wrong in so many ways. And are you all saying your child never picked up a crayon and doodled on a table, floor or wall at home?????

It happens and if it has never happened to you guess your kids are just perfect. Now, it looks like the parents tried to clean it with what they had inthe room, but WHY didnt housekeeping get rid of it? that's who I would have the complaint with.

It never ceases to amaze me that anyone would even leave a room with that kind of damage and not at least TRY to rectify it first. I cant' figure out why the housekeeper wouldn't clean it better, and if she couldn't, why didn't she call maintenance and have it replaced? They keep "extras" on hand for just that purpose. Somewhere along the line, someone isn't doing their job. In this case, it looks like it fell through on MANY levels... The person staying in the room should have taken more care...The Housekeeper should have contacted someone for help, and someone should be reporting this stuff.

OP, I think if I were you, I would go talk to the on duty manager and express your concern so they don't think YOU are responsible for the damage.

I totally agree with Di - it doesn't really matter how/why the marks are there in the first place. What matters is that the problem was not rectified before a new occupant arrived. OP, I also think you should report the problem so that a) management are aware and b) you don't get the blame.

I simply stated that "renters" was the first thing that came to my mind. I would like to think that DVC members, who have a vested interest in our resorts, would not let this happen.

And no, my own children NEVER ever once scribbled on tables or walls. I always supervised them when drawing materials were available to them. I guess not all parents are as responsible.

REALLY? :lmao:

My kids never scribbled on the walls or furniture either??...If they are young enough to do this then they shouldn;t be left alone in a room with crayons>
Its not rocket science.:confused3

And thats not just a quick doodle!..Looks like the little artist was busy for a while!LOL...Irresponsible parents!!

Children have a strange ability to find ways around even the most diligent of supervision. That some haven't done so yet in this way speaks more to random chance than parental "quality." We also don't know whether or not the guests tried to clean it (or not), or notified the resort (or not). Possibly, they did both. Possibly, they didn't.

But, who cares? These things do happen, even with the best of intentions. It would have been better had it been replaced before the new guest arrived, but a simple call down to the front desk should get it corrected in short order.

Thank you, that was my point, yes, I was offended at the "must be renters" comment, but come on, one can give a child a crayon and paper, turn there back to empty the dishwasher, and bamm, child missed the paper and crayon on the counter. In this instance, this looks like older kids being obnoxious, but to "blame it on renters" just bothers me. Sorry

While I don't want to get blazed here LOL I think there is a certain % of possibility that it wasn't an owner. (Not saying one is 'better' than the other - just hear me out!) Just saying that the possibility is there.

There is a certain amount of inherent 'built in' personal responsibility that comes with ownership of anything. So while a DVC Villa may just be a place to stay for a guest who is not an owner/member - a DVC Villa is a 2nd HOME to an owner. So merely from that perspective, I think an owner would have cleaned up their mess - or at least made sure they notified housekeeping of the incident to assure that it was cleaned up.

However, once again - I don't want to be blazed - but maybe not all DVC Members see things that way. Some people don't take care of anything they own - borrow - or even come in contact with. So the probability at the end of the day is left up to human nature.

Mousekeeping SHOULD have taken care of that before you arrived - and I certainly hope you made them aware of it so you didn't have to deal with that during your entire stay. Having to deal with something like that just makes my blood boil! :headache:

The topic of this thread is not Renters vs. Owners vs. CRO guest. Please stick to the topic of damage, and maintenance. Further off-topic comments will be removed.

Thanks.

I hope housekeeping reported it, they seem to let too many people get away with damage. Just becuase something is easy to replace or clean doesn't mean all the owners should have to pay for one person's/family's damage. The two big questions to me are:

1- How do we get housekeepers to notice and report damages (seems to be too much trouble for them)?; and

2- Where should the line be drawn as to what is damage?

Washing a table written on with crayon: easy fix, probably let that go. A table damaged by permanent marker (as what the pictures seem to be): That table needs to be replaced or special cleaner applied and cannot be just let go. And what about other little things like a broken glass? I once knocked one into the sink by accident and it broke. When I called housekeeping to let them know and they said it was OK, and shortly after there was a knock, they brought me 2 more. I know glasses are cheap when bough in bulk the way Disney does, but charge was incurred for the broken glass. I had expected something like $3 :confused3

... sorry I started running off on a tangent there. I just don't want to see the DVC rooms turn into a mess of little things that need fixing. I bought DVC becuase the rooms are like the hotel rooms only better - which to me means, they're perfect ;)

Maybe it's just my computer - but those scribbles look pretty faint to me. I am sure since housekeeping has so many rooms to do, and so many people who want in them right away that they do not inspect every nook and cranny with a fine tooth comb. I would assume they would wipe down the table - but maybe while they are doing that they are scanning the room for anything that looks out of place. I don't know what their routine is.

Do I think a table should be replaced because of what looks like a couple faded ink scribbles? Nope Do i think they should continue to find something that will get the marks off with out damaging the finish on the table. Yep

Hi, I am the original poster. Just wanted to let everyone know that it was apparent to me that someone (either previous occupant/s, or Mousekeeping) had already tried to remove said doodle from the table. So, no, I did not report it to anyone, as it seemed to me to be old news.

Personally, it saddens me to see things like this. But the alternative being, if they couldn't remove the ink, to replace/repaint the table would just raise my maint fees. It didn't ruin our enjoyment of our room. Just made me sad to see the place abused.

There was also about a 5" arced deep scratch on the coffee table, that we didn't see until check-out day, because of a strategically placed coaster left on the table. We had never moved that coaster until that day, as we moved the table out of the way of the fold out bed, and never really used it for anything after that. This scratch is something that I would consider normal wear and tear, but the doodle is another matter.

Don't know if you can make it out, but there is a stick figure in the doodle. So we are either dealing with a child/ren, a drunk adult, or just a jerk with a pen. Maybe they were playing Hangman?

Interesting, I thought it was someone playing hangman too from the photos, and if that's the case, this was not done by a small child.

As far as maintenance costs going up... I think some of that is considered normal wear and tear on a place that gets as much use as a DVC resort at WDW, but it doesn't address what SHOULD have happened before you got there. Frankly, I think these are the things that SHOULD have happened that may or may not have.

1-The person responsible for the damage (either adult or parent of responsible person) should have reported it.
2-Housekeeping should have noted it...tried to clean it, and in failing should have reported it to BOTH manager and maintenance.
3-Manager should take necessary steps to make sure the proper person is "charged". Of course, this assumes steps 1 and or 2 have been taken.
4-Table should have been replaced BEFORE the next guest checked into the unit.

I have always assumed this would be the typical way things worked. We once checked into a 2 bedroom at OKW where the master bath had some missing tile along the toe kick of the vanity. There was both a message on the phone and a note in the room explaining that maintenance had to replace the cabinet, and did not have time to repair the tile, but would be doing that the next morning. I thought it was nice of them to communicate that with me, even though I really didn't expect that to happen.
