Okay, this has been on my mind for awhile. I peek in at when everyone else posts pics of their work and am usually a little intimidated. When I am doing my pages I try to make the pictures the focus of the page but then I end up without as many frills and dressings as some of your lovely pages. So taking a short poll.

Thanks

I always focus on the pictures, then embellish. The few pre-made pages I have, I find it too difficult to narrow the pictures down to a few or the vertical/horizontal doesn't work out. I too am indimidated by others work at times, but I figure these are my family's memories and they will appreciate them no matter what :goodvibes

I always start with my photos. Then I have several different steps.

A) Find embellishments that work with the photos, then find paper that matches both the photos and the embellishments. (I do this a lot because I need to pair down my stash)

B) find a sketch that will work with the number of photos I have and build from there. This I do, if I don't have any embellishments and I have to build completely from scratch. I love sketches!! It helps me to really envision what the page will look like and gives me guidance on placement for balance.

Overall I typically only have 2-3 embellishments per 2 page layout. Title, journal box, and some kind of matching 3rd piece like a 3-D sticker or a die cut. Sometimes my titles or boxes have a little glitz to them but not much.

When I get back from errands this afternoon I'll post a thread on some of the stuff I've done.

I do both! love using all my beautiful pieces from the swaps and have recently been doing the sketch page swaps which are great too!

I do a bit of both - I belong to a kit club (Scrapbook Generations) and with my subscription get enough material for 5 double page layouts. They use very few actual embellishments, the embellishments are usually derived from patterns in the patterned paper. I do adapt my pictures to the layouts, and move things around or substitute different pictures sizes to accomplish what I want to scrap (even using the B side of the paper). For example, last night I wanted to scrapbook something that made me happy because I had just gotten some bad news (that turned out not to be anything, but that came later). I went to my photos and found the ones I took at the Josh Groban concert last summer. I flipped through my page kits to see if there was one I could use, and found one with the title "For the Record". I used the concert photos on that and talked about the CD the tour was based on in my journaling. For the most part, my pages are very plain, but when I am working on my own (and not from a kit or swap item) I sometimes do challenge myself to make a "fancier" page, which usually ends up being the first page(s) of a longer layout or the title page for a trip. But I am usually just so excited to get the pictures and journaling on a page, I don't spend a lot of time.

I do both. Usually, for everyday photos, I like to start with photos first. But for my Disney photos, since I have a lot of swap items sometimes I do better to start with the embellishments first. So I will pull out Splash Mountain swap pieces, and then look at my Splash Mountain photos and figure out which pictures I want. By doing it this way, I end up sketching out my pages before my pictures are ordered, so I know what size my photos need to be. Sometimes, I even prebuild the page. Then when my photos come, I can finish the page super quick. It also helps keep my Disney pictures from becoming too overwhelming, since I end up focusing on one small moment of the trip at one time.

I start with my photos - but sometimes, if I have some great swap pieces from here, I might make sure we do whatever activity we need to use them:lmao: Some of my pages have a lot onthem, but most are background + pictures + swap pieces :thumbsup2

I do whatever I feel like at the moment
sometimes it is pre-scrapping - usually Disney or I want to try out a sktech that I saw
other times I print out pics & go with the flow

I'm very moody - I'm told it is cause my sign is Cancer & I really fit the mold. I'm moody, love the water, family comes first.

I start with pictures and work around them, matching paper and embellishments to the picture location, theme, holiday, etc. I tend to use a lot of embellishments and have to edit myself at times.

I find that I only use cardstock and patterned paper if I start a page from scratch! I've joined a bunch of the completed page swaps so lately I've been looking for pictures to fit the pages.

I find I begin with pictures and then make the pages around them. I do not pre-kit, am more spontaneous, but while it may take me longer it is no problem.
For my cruise book, since the pictures are all numbered on the back, it made my book move along much faster. Simply picked the papers, used the embellishments we had swapped on the cruise (15 of us did swapping exchanges)and it is nearly finished.
I love looking at others' ideas too, but as long as I am happy with my book, that is all that really matters.

Thanks so much to everyone who has voted and posted. Being a guy who scraps can be kinda lonely. Now and then I need to get input from other scrappers. And I dont many folks around me who do!

I do a little of both. It depends on the pictures. I love using the swap pieces I have to help embellish some pages and other pages the photos are the focus and do not need embellishment. I have been using more sketches to help we with layouts and I really enjoy the way the pages are coming out.

I try to focus on the pictures most. I usually do a couple co-ordinating patterns and some colour, then maybe a cut out, a couple stickers, ribbons. I definitely have a more simple style. I find when I look at the magazines so many of the layouts are really "busy" for my taste.

We don't have any traditional photo albums any more so my scrapbooks need to highlight the photos.

My DD said this to me just the other day... LOL.. Yup, and I'm your mother so get over it!

Thanks again to all who particpated with votes and/or notes! It helped ease my mind alot. Not sure why I was even bothered by it so much but I was.

I will keep scrapping the way I have been !

When my Dh sees a very embellished layout he says it makes him feel :rotfl:
