Scrapbookers -- Have you ever done this?

I have an idea, and I'm wondering if there's some reason why it won't work.

I want to use my computer to make letters for title lettering. My idea is to print out the fonts and letters in the size I want, and then to use them as patterns to cut the letters out of paper or cardstock.

Has anyone ever tried this? Will it work? Do you have any advice to make it look good?

I haven't done what you're talking about but I have used my computer to just print the titles and use it like that. I don't have a very steady hand, I'm not very neat so I imagine it would not work for me. But if you can pull it off, great. Sounds like alot of work to me.

I haven’t done letters before, but I have drawn things that I want to have more than one of……. or I want to be sure that my idea work’s. The last book that I did was for Las Vegas and has show girls and a few Aladdin lamps (I wanted the lamps out of gold vellum) Anyway I have some VERY heavy paper that is not acid free that I made the patterns with. They turned out just fine.
A few hints: trace lightly around the template on the “opposite” side of the page that you want up. So you would be doing your letters backwards. I found that this gives you more room for error when you cut out the design. Cut a bit larger that the design and this will give you a chance to go back over any areas that you don’t like. It does take some time and patience though. Don’t know if I’d brave letters…..

Hmmm..okay..I am confused...why wouldn't you just print them and cut them out and then use those?? Or am I just NOT getting what you are trying to say??

I was thinking the same as Timon.

I print in "colorbook" style. Just a black outline.....and in reverse. Cut it out & flip it over. That way any remaining black lines are on the back.

If your printer or program doesn't offer coloring book --- choose the font color as white or none......and choose a gray or black outline on the font. This saves ink --- you aren't printing a solid black letter that will just be flipped over anyway.

I have done that and yes it can be done but it is alot of work. I also just pprint out the letter on the cardstock. I just scanned scrabble tiles sooo cool. what a wow look. I also scanned the scrabble board and added a message on it for a page to my husband

if you are haveing a problem printing on 12X12
just cut the cardstock-
print then tape it back together! Thats what I do - once you put everything else on your page you can't see the cut line:

I never thought of printing it out on the cardstock (slap in the head, V-8 style). That's what I get for concocting ideas at the end of the work week!

LOL -- don't feel bad. I'm not even going to tell you the ways I tried to figure things out on my own when I was starting out. That's what I get for not taking a class......and trying to copy what someone else did without instructions.

Just do alot of reading of message boards.....and pick up alot of tips.
