I recently attended an auction where I bid on (and won) the contents of a floor-to-ceiling bookcase about four feet wide.

The case was filled with a TON of scrapbooking magazines (along with some books and picture frames).

I bid on them because I wanted some of them, but I don't need ALL of them.

I'm wondering what to do with the ones I decide not to keep.

We are going to have a garage sale soon. Should I try to sell them there? What price should I place on them?

Or is it worth it to learn the ebay system and try to sell them there?

There are:
Creating Keepsages magazines
BH&G Scrapbooks etc. magazines
Paper Kuts magazines
Simple Scrapbooks magazines
Ivy Cottage magazines
Making Memories magazines

as well as several "books" that look like magazines (the ones that retail around $14.99)
CK Hall of Fame issues
CK Idea Book issues
and other "bookazines" of all sorts of topics

That was the bulk of the shelves. Much of it was kept in those plastic magazine organizers. There are also some Real Simple magazines and Costal Living magazines.

I'm looking for advice. What would you do?:confused3

I just went through all my magazines and sliced out stuff I would use (layout ideas etc.) and recycled the remainder

see if some of the local libraries, hospitals, shelters would want them. Then recycle the rest. If you put them in the yard sale, sell them for next door to nothing or they will never move. 25 cents or 5 for a dollar maybe?

Even at $.25 a piece, I wouldn't have to sell very many of them to pay for the lot.

Would you do the same for the "bookazines"? ie The Big Book of Seasonal Memories

it sounds like you got a good deal on the contents.
I lost a bunch of my magazines in the basement flood but have recently come to the conclusion that they do not need to be replaced. I have way too much stuff!!!

I would buy them! I just bought 9 for $2 at a yard sale.

The first thing I said to DH when I got the lot was, "I wish my DIS friends lived closer." His response was, "Me too." There is just an unbelievable amount of stuff.

There were 28 of those magazine-organizing boxes plus stuff on the shelves that wasn't in containers. After going through the mags, we re-filled two of those boxes back up with duplicates.

There were some hardback books as well. (scrapbooking and other topics)

There was a brand new wooden picture frame with Mickey head silhouettes on it (perfect for a family shot of our last trip) along with other new and used picture frames and mats.

There is still a box I haven't gone through. I paid $7.50 for the lot. I think I got a pretty good deal.

A few ideas to throw out there....

First thought.... go through them individually... tear out what you want to keep for inspiration, recycle the rest (or share for free with friends).

Second.... sell them. I would definitely check recent prices on Ebay and such for the "bookazines" and books. Sometimes they are quite desireable and out of print. As for the regular magazines... yard sale. I used to pay about a buck a piece for past issues of CK at my local scrapping store.

Third thought.... find an organization that can use them... sometimes local shelter and places like Ronald McDonald house have scrapping events, both for residents and for fundraising. Maybe they could use them.

Just some ideas. Have fun with your "find"!.....................P

I would yard sell them, since you are already having one. Ebay them if you have time and don't mind the fees.

DH and I donate our old mags to the hospital. He gets a tax reciept when we can deduct.

Thanks to all of you for your input.

I'm going to call a scrapping friend to see if she'd like any. I need to find out if my new neighbor scraps. I hadn't worked that into conversation yet.

Then, I think I'll try the leftover magazines at a quarter at our garage sale in a couple of weeks. I'll price the books at a dollar or two. I don't know that the bookazines would be worth the time it would take to do the ebay thing.

Anything that doesn't sell will go into the recycle bin at my kids' school.

Thanks again for your advice.

ask the art teacher if they want them too. My mom made butterflies out of magazine pages, clothesline pins, and pipe cleaners. They are super cute and easy.
Cut the paper out at the binding, accordion fold in small pleats, gather in the center and tape the gather, fan out the wings. Attach the pipe cleaner for antennae to the clothespin and glue it to the paper.
It works great with really colorful papers, mostly advertisements.
