We are getting a Gordon setter pup in a few weeks!
So, my family is in the process of trying to pick out a name. I thought because Gordon Setters are Scottish in origin I would try to find a Scottish name. So far, I've come up with Angus, Malcolm a few others...but no names that are really thrilling me for a dog. Any suggestions?

It's a boy pup, BTW!

Fergus? Douglas? Mac?

Jock is the name of the Scottie in Lady and the Tramp.

Or maybe look on a map of Scotland and find a nice sounding place name? Like Edinburgh and call him Eddie?

I know that excitement!! My boy is 5 1/2 months now. Enjoy every minute of those puppy days because they go by so quickly.
How about Russell? Isn't Russell Crowe a Scotsman?

We used a site like this to help pick a name for our dog. I was going to suggest Brynn until I saw that it was a boy.

Bogey was on the list, that is cute if you like to golf. Dh's uncle had a dog named Divot, I wanted to use that name but got out voted.

Some other names on the list I like:
MacArthur
MacDuf or MacDuffy
Mungo
Elliot

Here is another link

I had to look up what a Gordon Setter is, they have the same coloring as our dog, only our dog is only going to be about 10-11 lbs :teeth:

Congratulations!
We have a couple of Scottish Terriers... Angus and Bridget!

MacGregor, Gordon, Laddie, .. what is the name of that Scottish dish?..
oh ya..
Haggis!!

We once had a Golden Retriever I named Duncan.
this way you can use the endearment, " Duncan punkin' " ;)

MacDuff, Whisky (Scotish spelling has no 'e'), or name him after a brand of Scottish whisky, Bruce, Wallace, Rob, Robbie, Fife, Douglas, Frazier

Not Scottish necessarily? but Strider--LOTR names are cool, if you're a fan.

Not sure how scottish this is, but it first popped in my head when I read your post...how about Yardsley.

You guys are giving me great suggestions! I like Duncan...definitely a possibility. I also Liked MacDuff before but DH vetoed it. My kids like completely different names (Howie & Clifford :rolleyes2 )

Russell is kinda cute...I'll have to put that on the list. Also I will check out that website.

I kind of like the Whisky idea...not sure how to explain it to the kids, though !!
Definitely NOT haggis!!!!

Keep 'em coming!

BTW, this pup is from the breeder you recommended, airhead!!!! Thanks!!!

William Wallace... all he ever wanted was freedom... :teeth:

Paisley? It's the town my dad grew up in.

Russell Crowe - depsite his temper ;) is not Scottish. Born in New Zealand, grew up in Australia.

How about====HAGGIS(my favorite)====LAIRD====AYRSHIRE(town in Scotland)

I fostered a Scottie once, and the family that adopted him named him "Argyle." :goodvibes He wore a red collar with a little plaid bowtie in the front--he was too cute for words!

Gordons are beautiful--have fun with the new baby! :)

I'm jotting these down to talk to DH about them:
Angus
Russell
Duncan
Wallace
Hamish
Clyde
Conan
Whisky
Brodie
Argyle
Barclay
Jingo
Bogart

Any others?!

How about Hamish
That was my suggestion! By the way it's hay-mish not ham-ish. Just FYI.If you get a girl you could name her Esme (from Hamish McBride). Good luck with your puppy.
