Scott Petersen - Why should I care?

I guess what I don't get is why you feel concern for those that want to follow the case, if you don't that is your perogative, but those that do should not have to defend themselves for doing so.

I guess it is to each their own. There are lots of things that the media runs with that I get sick of reading/hearing about, so I just tune it out.

The Peterson case is just one of those that the media has taken off running with, and it HAS gotten a lot of attention, probably more than it deserves, but it has elements that make it rather sensational (of course the media has helped in that aspect too). I had interest at first, same with Kobe, Jackson etc., but they are so drawn out and so over the top at times, with SO much coverage, they quickly lose appeal to me too...plus it seems those with the bucks to get the high powered attorneys always come out ahead in the game, which I find unfair. All the above is JMHO....:D

None of my comments have been intended to criticize people who are following the case. I apologize if it came across that way. What I was asking is why people feel the need to follow the case. I honestly don't understand why a case like this warrants the level of coverage it has received.

A few months ago People magazine had a cover story on celebrity trials. If I remember correctly, the photos on the cover showed Michael Jackson, Robert Blake, Martha Stewart and Scott Petersen. Of course, in the following issue, there were reader's letters pointing out that Scott Petersen isn't a celebrity. Nobody had ever heard of him prior to the crime being committed. The media created the buzz around this case and obviously a lot of folks want to hear all the details. I just don't feel that way personally. I have no personal connection to the case. I don't know anyone involved nor were any of them famous. I don't live in the area where the crime occurred.

There are lots of murders across the country every day that get barely a mention on the local news. I guess this case just had all the elements to make it help sell newspapers and magazines and boost tv ratings.

No, I didn't take it that you were critizing people, I just wondered why you wanted folks to give you an explanation as to "why" they felt the need to follow these trials. Sometimes things just hold more interest to me than others, can't explain it really.

Again, I think it is just a case of what floats your boat or interests you...some people follow all the business dealings of say, Disney, or sports or whatever....some of those things don't interest me that much, and I don't get why so much interest is shown, but again, your perogative.

I do agree, there are many more losses of life every day that are so tragic and don't get the publicity, I just think it is the circumstances sometimes and it gets swooped up by the media and away it goes.
