Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon - Sept 28

I can't remember what time I put down. I think I just based it on the Minnie 15K too which means something slow. I am hoping to finish around the 2 hr mark but I'll have to see how the training goes. I'm back up to running at 10m/m ... so I guess that's a start :goodvibes

Is anyone going for the massage afterwards? I paid for one with my registration but I'm thinking that maybe I should have waited until the race to decide... in case the lines are really long.

Yay Vicky! It'l be lovely to see you again.

It's so great that we're going to be a proper little group for the run. What finish times did you guys register for? I really didn't know so just estimated based on Minnie. I have no idea what we'll be upto while over there, in fact i'm not even sure who's coming with me yet! My mum's really eager to come, but i also have quite a new boyfriend who's a triathlete and is considering it (just not sure if it's too big a commitment this early on!). I'd love to catch up before the run tho.

That's really cool Kate! Has he gotten you to register for any triathlons? Are you thinking of bringing both your mum and BF?

Then it better be before, I have no where to shower after:scared1: We are about 45 min north of the city. I was thinking expo day???? What does everyone think???

Kim

I'm thinking of camping out at my cousin's place (I didn't tell him yet :rotfl: ). He's across the street from the start/finish. That way I won't get stuck in traffic coming down on the Sun and I can shower afterwards. A meet on Expo day sounds good to me :) Is that the Friday or Saturday?

Vicky, that's awesome! How on earth did you get back up to 10mm so quickly? I want some tips!

he he, no def no triathlons for me. I don't really cycle and haven't swum properly since last year when i did a 5km but it took forever!!! I also still have a really sore arm which is keeping me out of the water. Def not mum and BF  am still leaning towards mum as finding BF really tricky to read and don't want to come across too heavy.

Anyone got experience with a good half marathon plan? I want to start now but they're all like 12 weeks or something which is too far away.

I'm using the treadmill  I'm probably not suppose to be on it as much as I am... oh well. I think I go slower outside mostly because I know I can stop and walk. On the TM, I just tend to keep going.

I know what you mean about your mum and BF. I won't tell you how long I've been going out with my DF and we still don't go on vacation with our families. I think it would be awkward mostly because everyone has a different idea of what a relaxing vacation is.

I don't think you should be embarressed about using the treadmill, especially this early on in training. I guess it should be better on your legs too. I've been trying to alternate because i've got back to struggling outside but being fine on tm. We need to invent a moving pavement!!!!

Amps thanks for the programme i'm still mooching around to find the perfect one.

ok major blow to my 1/2 plans- i think i've lost both of my potential travel buddies. DMum's down to have shoulder surgery which will be in about 2-3 months so she's not going to be up for it and also i feel like i should be around. Will wait for exact date to completely rule her out tho! Also broke up with my boyfriend who was really eager to come. I always felt that it was too soon for a trip, so guess i turned out to be right ::yes::

So it's wait and see for mum or maybe a solo trip :worried:

Oh no! But I only registered to run because you said you were coming!! Just kidding! ;) Ah! Sorry to hear about the BF but it sounds like it was for the best?

Sending lots of pixiedust: for your mum. Hope everything turns okay. If it were my mum, I would be rethinking the trip too.

Keep us posted Kate

oh no that is terrible. Hope you will still be able to make it.

"offical" training starts this weekend....yIKES

I hope everyone's race went well. Major props to everyone that came out today.

I finished the half at 2:01:18, my goal was to finish under two hours but I'm happy with the result. I didn't get to train all through September due to a nagging pain in my right hip and adjusting to a new school schedule.

Next up, Ottawa full! :cool1:

Wow that is a awesome time!!!!!

DH and I finished about 3:10 - 3:15 however, DS who was doing his first 1/2 finished in 2:15 we are so proud of him. Now he wants the shiney medal so he is going to do the full next year

I saw and chatted with Vicky and Beth. Hope you both had awesome days !!!!

Congrats Kim and Amps on some great times! My chip time was 2:40. Wasn't the weather perfect? It was nice and cool but not too cold. I thought it was a little windy - I noticed when we were coming back along Lakeshore, lots of people had their hats blowing off.

I was a little disappointed with the number of porta potties. Every time I thought about stopping, there were lines 5-7 people and only three porta potties. I also had a hard time getting ice at the end since the medical tent was near the finish line and I couldn't figure out how to get back without walking all the way around to University Ave.

Some of the best parts of the race was watching the elites go by. It was lots of fun cheering them on! I thought about how fast they were going since they were already turned around on Lakeshore and still had even more running. I also loved the crowds on Bay Street. It was so much fun having people cheer for you by name!

Kim - It was so nice meeting you, Mike and your DS. I saw a few gold medals after I finished and thought it would be nice to have one. But I don't know if I could do a full marathon. Good for your DS :) That's awesome!

Hey Vicky, congrats. It was nice meeting you and DF as well. Always nice to put a face to the name when chatting:goodvibes

The breeze was nice when it was at your back but on the way back when I had to dig deep it was right in my face:sad2: but actually that was kinda nice as well.

Bit of a sore back today but surprised my legs are just fine. Oh well off to get ready for work and show off my medal:woohoo:

Have a great day all

Kim, Amps and Vicky you all did so well. Massive congratulations to you all. I really hope yu feel so proud of how brilliantly you've done. Wear your medals all week!!!!

I was a little sulky yesterday when i realised that's where i could've been, but turned out for the best as am at uni this week and next! Maybe see you next year (they've deferred my place for free).

thanks Kate, hopefully we will see you there next year.

DS and DH are planning on doing the full next year. i will stick to the 1/2 so I can be at the finish line when they cross!!!!!

Kim, it was really nice seeing you on the course and at the end! You did awesome!!!!!

Beth

Hey Beth, thanks you did as well.....are you going to take some time off between 1/2 now;)

Glad you all made it home safe and sound!!!!!!

Was your DH at the race??? There was a guy who told me Beth said to say hi and I said something like thanks I was just talking to her....but I don't think the oxygen was all back to my brain yet so I didn't ask who it was or anything:sad1:

Yeah, that was my dh! He is the greatest supporter in the world! He saw your shirt!

Beth

LOL......I had so many comments on my WISH shirt....I just love the saying on the back and so do alot of others out there..

Tell him thank you for saying HI!!!!!

Oh I didn't know there was another DIS'er at the race. Sorry I didn't get a chance to say hi Beth! I really need a WISH shirt so I'm not incognito :)

Kim - Did you get lots of congratulations from your co-workers? I didn't bring my medal to work - my group is anti-running (and anti-exercise).

Kate - Hope to see you in Toronto in 2009! I'll have to do some speedwork if you're going to be running :)

ya kinda got some congrats but most just don't get it. They just say well was it worth it when they see my medal????:confused3

Some people are just weird:rotfl: :rotfl:
