Scooters for a restaurant

I've rented a scooter from Buena Vista for our fall trip. In going into a theme park I will not have my manual chair with me. My ability to transfer is limited, my walking standing is also limited. Will rgey allow mw to drive in and swivel to the table? I'm sure I can in quick service venues but what about table service? I appreciate anny experiences with that. I prefer not to take my manual chair into a park, hence I rented the scooter, but what about meals?

It's probably going to depend on the individual restaurant, how crowded it is, and if they have tables available in an accessible section. It's been a while since my last trip with an ECV, so maybe someone else will have more up to date information.

only one I have ever had a problem with was Garden Grill could not have at table on lower level had to transfer and did not want on second level. had the manger stop by table after I was seated, had transferred, to tell me ECV did not fit. told her that mine had fit and one of her guys had taken it and he was going to bring it back for me when done. she checked with her guy and came back and said she was very surprised that it had fit. have not tried again since that night

I was able to use my scooter at Cape May. They chose a table for us near the entrance and removed a chair for me to have room. My DH brings my food to me from the serving area since I would not be able. If not, the server offered to bring anything I needed.

We ate at boma this last week. DH used the scooter to get from kidani to jumbo. In our case I brought DH’s rollator to get around restaurant, but CM did said they had a few tables where a scooter would fit.

My DH walked and I got the food. Second round, DH stayed seated and just told me a little more this and that.

You could probably do it with a Go-Go style scooter, but if you have something similar to a Vic10, it could be a little iffy, especially if the restaurant has already limited maneuvering room.

When we were there in December my aunt was in her scooter for all meals. We ate at Space, GG, Skippers and Sci Fi for sit downs. There was another one too, but I’m gapping on it now I just know when we made reservations it asked if we had mobility issues and I put yes.
‘It wasn’t a problem anywhere.

Some restaurants, including Narcoose's (pre-reno, so I hope it's changed), Beaches and Cream (however the hostess was so sweet and told my server to come get her when I was ready to go, and she took my arm and escorted me out-guess the possibility of my falling had her a little scared), and Ale and Compass wouldn't let me bring my scooter in. However, on recent trips, when I check in (travel solo), there's a place at the bottom of check in where they ask about needing your ECV, and I've been accommodated since at Trattori Forno, Grand Floridian Cafe, Cape May breakfast, I forget where else. Look for a place to note accessibility needs when you check in.

Depends on how big the scooter is and which restaurant. There are places there just isn't room, like Oga's. In a case like that, they will let someone help you transfer to your table and let that person park your scooter. But it sounds like you are alone? This could be very difficult. Some restaurants will make you transfer to a manual chair, like I think BOG does this.

Maybe you need to rent a powerchair instead? Those can go anywhere, you know, because there are a lot of people who can't get out of them.

That is the one I forgot. We ate at Oga's. My aunt was able to stay in her scooter.

We had a party member stay in a powerchair, but I don't see how a large scooter would physically fit. I've seen people transfer from scooters and then take them to park.

Three different scenarios

  • You can walk shortish distances. You leave the scooter outside the restaurant and walk to the table.
  • Monility is more limited but you can transfer. The restaurant will either find a table with a nearby place to park your scooter or a CM will take your scooter and return it to you when needed
  • You can't transfer. They'll find you a table that works for you.
Tell the restaurant which category fits your needs

Well, I don’t know what you consider a large scooter, but I think the one my aunt had was large and it fit. We did notify them beforehand that we had a scooter and when I checked in, but it absolutely fit.

Thank you all for sharing you experiences. I'm going to hope or the best in parks and we will probably drive when dining at hotels and I'll take the wheelchair.
